Yep and though I don't know if its the worse or not, but English's variability can make for a lot of misinterpretation (or even deliberate misinterpretation to stir trouble, which I know to my cost)

I grew up watching the dub and I loved it until I discovered the Japanese version and how much stuff was taken from the original version. I can't watch the dub anymore because I'm so used to the Japanese voices and names. I also think now that the dub is cheesy.

I don't see the point in people speaking badly of the dubs. Think about it...if you had never seen the dub you may not have been introduced to the anime in question. It frustrates me that people talk harshly of the dub. Yes, some plots were changed but every member of the staff worked hard, including the voice-actors...so give them a break.

Then again, there are defenses of the dub that seem more like a long-winded "Let's point out all of the original's faults" then actually provide a good argument for why the dub is good. MoonKitty.net's anime intro is, I think, a good example-I love that site but I think there's some rather weak arguments, especially since they provide absolutely zero points as to why the dub is good other then "It's in English". Which is why I like Betty Ann's dub defense article the best

Well sometimes, liking the same sort of thing (In this case, the NA dub) can lead people into different directions in terms of their thoughts on the dub.

" Serena, I can't understand your writing, it's retard talk! " '' no mina, that's japanese...." " Isn't that what I said?" Oh boy, no wonder that show was taken off of US television.

I admit, I chose number 7. But I swear, it's probably because I was exposed to it for like 5 years before I got a hold of any original eps. lol I also grew up with the DIC dub, so it holds a place for me, no matter how cheesy and horribly inaccurate it can be at times. LOL I pretty much have to view the dub as a different show all together, because it's so radically changed. And for some reason, none of the voices bother me at all. ;; Usually I cannot STAND dubs... even okay-ish ones. The only dubs I can think of off the top of my head that I could enjoy are Bebop and Ghost in the Shell and Stand Alone Complex. LOL... I do find myself cringing now and then when I watch the dubbed movies though, even though the voice acting is the same. So it really is a familiarity thing and I also attribute it to the fact that I watched DICified SM for 5 years straight. It brings back major nostalgia now. LOL yay for youtube and it's insane amount of random stuff. But... I cannot cannot CANNOT stand the new NA dub. I honestly cannot. Where the HECK did they get the voice actor for Usagi from? ? I can tell she's trying to imitate Terri Hawks but she does a horrible job at it, and just argh... her tone, everything is terrible. ;; Half the time, I swear, she's about to go off yodaling. I do have hangups with the changing of genders too, for all dubbed versions. UGH my poor Haruka and Michiru... kissing cousins, my friends.

Yeah, I vote inaccurate but I can tolerate it. I mean, the very first time I watched SM was when I was six, so that's all I could watch at the time. So, I basically grew up with the dub.

The NA dub is NOT that bad but I HATE it as well. It depends on certain aspects in my point of view: 1. The voices in the adaptation were pretty good some of them suited the character, especially Rei bcos I know who plays her in the adaptation n uncut, she plays one of my other fave characters besides Rei (note: a non SM character). 2. The cutting in the adaptation STINKS they cut out the deaths, nude scenes n rubbed out body lines lol. I like the jap better. 3. Speaking of the uncut version (which I do have some on DVD), the voices were BAD I disliked Usagi, Ami n Chibiusa's eng voices. They were sooooooooo anoying, I prefered Ami's old eng voice it sounded much more younger than the uncut, her voice was tooo mature. 4. The uncut eng was great except for a few things: Haruka n Michiru were cousin in the dub...lamo! And the script error, now that was totally lame. I mean 'Venus Crystal Power'...it supposed to be 'Venus Star Power' (from ep 92). Plus Ami's transformation error 'Mercury Star Power' it supposed to be 'Mercury Crystal Power'!!! (I think it was ep 151). Overall I like both eng and jap depending on certain things.

I agree with on the movies blueeyedbrunette. I mean who was the IDIOT who though Venus should say "You're the glues that holds all of us together " ?! <_< I hate the dub because of the terrible American cliches in it, but in some parts it's tolerable. Like before Moon jumped the ledge of Nehelania's castle she said "I still pity you" which I like better than the Japanese "I won't lose to you" it seems more compassionate and in character.
Was it just me or did some of the episodes (like 112) seem like they were poorly drawn compared to the rest of the season? I don't know I looked at 11 and it was great, but then there was just crap for certain episodes.

It frustrates me that people talk harshly of the dub. Yes, some plots were changed but every member of the staff worked hard, including the voice-actors...so give them a break. *nods* I agree with you.The voice artists are not their own bosses--they're talking in those voices under the eyes of their director. They have to do what the director tells them to do,or they'll get fired. Nothing wrong with thinking that the dubbing companies can do better, but to call them evil, curse them and yell at them to die...that's going overboard, and also pointless. It's not as if the dubbers expect older people to like their version, and that kind of hatred wouldn't make them want to change their ways of dubbing. In fact, they'll only be amused by the swearing and yelling.
