It wasnt that the voice was too high;it was too SOFT. To me,a soft, feminine voice does not fit a butch-looking female like Haruka/Amara. A voice should fit a character perfectly. Take Scar from "The Lion King",for example-his voice fits him perfectly. It has that sly and sinister sound, and it makes him all the more evil and treacherous. Now,if Scar was given a soft and gentle voice,it would not match his villianous personality. The same rule should apply for all characters of "Sailor Moon," whether the voice actors have naturally high voices or not. I've actaully seen things like Disney movies dubbed into Japanese, and the voice actors did wonderful jobs and making sure the voice fit the character perfectly. Mickey's voice is high pitched like it's supposed to be...Scar's voice is low and sinister like it's supposed to be...Cinderella's voice is soft and feminine like it's supposed to be. Not once did I see voices that did not fit the characters.I think the same efforts should of been applied to some of the characters in "Sailor Moon".Most of the voices were good in the original..it's just those few voices that don't fit the characters' personalities that I mentioned earlier.

It wasnt that the voice was too high;it was too SOFT. To me,a soft, feminine voice does not fit a butch-looking female like Haruka/Amara. When I was little I was always confused about that. I was all "Amara's a guy, right? Why is her voice so girly? Wait... no, she's a girl... e___e". I think Megumi Ogata was fine with voicing Haruka. Her voice came out silky and sexy and it suited her much better than Sarah LaFleur as Amara.

I still think Sarah LaFleur was awesome as Haruka/Amara..her voice in the later episodes made Amara sound like the butch female she was supposed to be.She was a little soft-sounding at first, but she later changed the voice to sound more butch in the following episodes.
Megumi on the other hand would've been GREAT if she had just made her voice a little more butch and not so soft and feminine.I'm sure Megumi did an excellant job at the other voices she did.it's just that I don't think a soft feminine voice fits a masculine-looking butch woman at all. I've heard plenty of butch females in my life, and none of them ever had soft feminine voices-their voices were always tough-sounding.

i liked Sarah for Haruka in teh dub, but Ogata Megumi ftw. Sarah could give a good voice for Haruka when it was required. I still love at the end of S and Pharaoh 90 has landed... "Are you happy, Sailor Moon? Are you happy?! ANSWER ME!!!!" that conveys a lot of emotion, which is actually a rarity sometimes in dubbed anime.
now that i am older, i will always take subbed over dubbed, though.

I think Makoto's voice actress in the dub made her sound/seem butchy. XD

Yeah, I LOVED Megumi Ogata as Haruka, I thought that she sounded kind of sexy and mysterious, kind of non-chalant. It conveyed a lot of different emotions, and you do have to remember that it was Japanese, and that voice sounds like a girl TO US but that voice is actually very butch in Japan, she sounds very close to a Japanese man to me lol. (Watch the Japanese version of Yuu Yuu Hakusho sometime, Megumi Ogata did Kurama's voice and he sounds almost identical to Haruka, but I would never mistake him for a girl.) However, I really much more prefered Lita's voice to Makoto's XD That's the only voice that didn't annoy me, I liked her sounding butch instead of just like another girl, because she is just a little butch. The original had her sounding just like the rest of the girls. Honestly if I listen to the original without watching it, sometimes when it comes to the inners I don't know who's talking (except for with Usagi) but the same is not true with the dub. I'll give the dub credit for that, it made their voices unique instead of sounding all the same. The rest of the people sound different in the original, but especially Rei Minako and Makoto sound too alike for me to tell the difference by sound alone. I love Lita's dub voice though

I have to say that surprises me I really like Makoto's voice for just that reason -- I think it comes across as tough, I wouldn't use the word "butch" but then I don't think the character is either. I loved the way the actress portrays the conflict between her masculine and feminine side in the crucial episode 29, for instance. I'll have to go and re-watch some dub now to see how it compares.....

Lita's voice in the dub is just off for me. I know that she is supposed to be a tom-boy, but it's too scratchy. Masaya (Tokyo mew mew) was voiced my the person who did Haruka. It took me a while to figure it out, but still. She does a wonderful job voicing ^.^

I think that scratchy voice gave Lita personality and made her really unique.

Haruka_Michiru, What do you not like about the dub. Now, I know you like it, but nothing is perfect. So I want to know what you don't like, since all you post is that you think the dub is perfect.

I don't think the dub is perfect.I don't even know why you tried to imply that I think the dub is perfect after I've been saying that even the dub has its flaws. If you've read some of my earlier posts, you would've found out that I don't really like Grandpa Hino's voice in the first 2 seasons, and that I don't care for the overly spazztic voice of Serena in the 3rd season.you would've also seen me talk about how I don't care for Michiru being called "Michelle" or them turning Zoicite into a woman or them turning Haruka and Michiru into cousins.
I really cannot complain about the slang, since I toss around slang from the 1950s,1960s and 1970s in some of my Sailor Moon fics.

The slang just bugs me in all of those shows lol Including Degrassi, which I still like. Seriously, it annoys the crap out of me because adults THINK kids talk like that they really do... but NO ONE talks like that.
They're getting better about it sadly... because in all the new shows all the kids say things like "Btw" instead of by the way and "Omg!" instead of oh my gosh... which sadly enough people are actually saying these days V_V

At least they are using the present day slang and such. It could be worse.

LOL! I know?! Has ANYONE in their life actually SERIOUSLY used the word "hunk-o-saurus"?
I think not.... these people need to brush up on the lingo before they try writing it into the story.
