Whereas the Japanese Sailor Moon is a true ANIME. (like it's supposed to be!) with a lot more thought into it, and adaptable for any generation to enjoy, with still a little funny tied in, but a lot more seriousness. I'm going to get on my soapbox here: There's NO such thing as "real anime". *snip* Really. I find the whole "real anime" label to be really stupid and un-necessary. But see, there is also a difference between "anime" and "cartoon", just like there are differences between "play" and "musical". They are both theater shows. They both have acting involved, that sort of thing. Same thing with anime and cartoons. They may be drawn in the same style, but when the anime was dubbed into English, they turned it into a lighter show, and deemed it as a cartoon (yes. I have seen that word used on numerous products and references). It's a matter of how one would define the words. I don't think Dr. Phil is a family help show, I think of it as a one or two people (related or not) help show. But you, obviously, don't. Also, let's really try to avoid making this argument more personal. Calling someone's comment stupid makes it borderline insulting in my book, with all due respect.

*cough* exactly that's what I was referring to lol I meant Sailor Moon is a 'real anime' in reference not to OTHER animes, but to it's dub counterpart, which is not REALLY anime to me, it is moreso a cartoon... in my eyes. But in your argument you used other animes to support it... when I think REAL ANIME I don't mean "more adult themes" I think anime as in in a Japanese manner, and even Pokemon had more adult pieces in it. Whereas in America when they dub it they make it more for children, making it more childish AND more simple... more 'dumbed down' if you will. I would NEVER call an original Japanese anime a cartoon, in the same aspect that I wouldn't call say.. Dora the Explorer, an anime So in that aspect in my mind, the English version of Sailor Moon is a cartoon, and the Japanese version is an anime. Someone's opinion is their opinion, it is MY opinion that things are this way, and if YOU have a different opinion by all means have it, and state it freely, but do NOT insult my opinion. That's extremely rude and close-minded. Try to be a bit more mature about the situation. Notice that I stated "I think" etc and you tried to state your OPINION as if it was a fact, and anyone else that thinks otherwise is absurd. If you have a thought it is a thought, and other people are allowed to disagree with it, so don't try to tell everyone to quit using the phrase 'real anime' when in their mind it could be how they view it. So is my piece... do what you wish with it

I don't quite know why people say they hate American dub over Japanese. I mean, they're both quite good IMHO; they're just... incompatible. They both have good storylines and a few decent ideas... it's just that the stories don't often match. It's like SM English is an entirely different cartoon from SM Japanese. Anyone get what I'm saying? I totally do. I can understand where people are coming from when they say they hate the dub too though. But, personally, I view it the same way you do, not as the butchered version of SM but as a separate storyline. Of course, my nostalgia-goggles blind me to all the (DIC) dub's problems in the first place though. In my mind it can do no wrong, because it's linked to fond memories of my childhood.

I'm not so much attached to the dub because I knew even as a kid that it didn't seem right; Why's her mouth moving but she's not talking? Wait, what's going on in Sailor Moon says? That never happened in this episode! Why had Lita got Amy's voice?? I still appreciate the dub, but Dic seriously killed some episodes, the fight against Beryl for instance. I guess a lot of manga fans would feel the same about the adaption to anime, so yeah.

Not to mention they COMPLETELY took out the part where Endymion is man handling Sailor Moon all over the floor.

I do prefer the original Japanese version to the English dub, for pretty obvious reasons. I'm sure I won't be saying something that someone else hasn't already said on the matter.
I do have a certain nostalgic fondness of the dub, though (well, the dub episodes BEFORE the 17 "lost episodes" in the R season). There was a lot of stuff edited out of this version and whatnot, but there was a certain charm to it, to be honest. There must have been something that DiC got right, considering that I LOVED it when I first got into the show as a child. Without the dub, I would have never discovered Sailor Moon, period.

Same here. But even now when I try to watch the dub, it just... hurts. D: It really annoys me now. And it's such a different story.

I think it's really silly to let something so unimportant annoy you.And to say it hurts you to watch the dub? I'll never understand why some people focus on the bad parts of something so much that it ruins the total enjoyment of that something. Yes,the dub has its bad parts as well as good parts, but if you look at all this in a realistic way, you'll see that the subtitles and originals also have good points and bad points.Nothing is 100 % perfect, and there always be things you love and hate about shows, movies, music, etc. It will hurt to watch the dub if you only focus on the negative parts of it.What fun is it to watch something if you only focus on the bad parts? I learned that while watching subtitles and the originals. I was only focusing on the negative aspects of them and I realized I was ruining the fun and enjoyment for myself. I learned to ignore the negative parts and to just focus on the positive aspects, and I found out that I actaully enjoy watching them.

It doesn't hurt me to watch the dub, just my poor ears And I'm being serious lol Those voices sometimes literally give me a headache, especially the terrible laughs... I don't know how the Japanese do it, but they somehow do that "A HA HA HA HA" laugh without sounding so piercing that your ears bleed... That's really the reason I don't watch the dub anymore. The minute I start watching, I either have to keep adjusting the volume around or I just have to turn it off, because the voices really do hurt my ears.

I just think the dub did it..sorta poorly. They can edit SO much! Did anyone else realize that in their transformations in the English dub, the little shadows on their body are not there? (look at the sailor mars English one for example. Then compare it to the Japanese one.) I do agree with Totallyusagi on the voices. I mean, Serena AN be a crybaby, but they didn't have to make her voice sound like she is always whining. an like Mistress Vampire said on another thread, like in act 40 (45) Amy said "No one ever said this was going to be safe." That was a good line, BUT the voicing people ruined it. sure Amy is a quiet girl, but that doesn't mean, that when she is facing death, she has to shush up! along with Rini's voice. It just..kills my ears. :/ Luna is supposed to be a young kitty, not a 78 year old! Some of the voices I can understand, others....they just don't help my loving of the series. And with the editing, While was watching the Super S movie, I noticed something. Why does Raye say "hey do you hear some sort of musical instrument playing a tune?" I laughed my head off when I heard her say that, I mean, They could have done their famous editing and just have her say "Hey did you guys hear some music?" or something like that. And in episode 40 (45) they combined both episodes...why? It just ruins the suspense! And their mouths weren't moving half the time during the battle, BUT they were somehow magically talking! ventriloquism is NOT an answer! =

I honestly can't think of any positive parts of the dub at the moment. I prefer the original because it's just that--the original.

I compared the voices of the original and the dub,and I found that the original totally kills some of the characters by the wrong type of voice acting. Example: Luna,Haruka and Melvin in the original.Luna is supposed to sound like a young cat, right? She sounds like one of the chipmunks, not like a young cat. Diana and Artemis were done nicely, but I think Luna's voice actor was'nt trying hard enough to give Luna the right voice. That voice is fine for a mouse or chipmunk or even Diana, but not Luna. Luna sounds way too young and kittenish. Haruka and Melvin's voices were too soft and didn't have any personality, thus ruining the characters' personalities. In the dub,Haruka sounded like a butch female and Melvin sounded like a nerd, which fit their personalities perfectly and made you actaully believe Haruka was butch and Melvin was a nerd. But in the original,Haruka's voice did not match her masculine personality, and Melvin's voice did not match his nerdiness.Voices have to match a character's personality perfectly, otherwise the character comes off as just some person looking like they're trying to act like someone they're not.

You're forgetting this is Japanese. Japanese people have high voices.I see nothing wrong with Harukas voice, I'm not sure about Umino;I haven't heard him in a while. But the woman who did Haruka has done many men in anime. A lot of animes I've seen have Megumi Ogata as a man, there fore I would think that Haruka sounds masculine enough.
I liked Sailor Moon's S and SuperS voice, it's all a matter of getting used to it. And they have some pretty good lines- I watched episode 166 dubbed and compared it to the japanese one- it was dubbed well.
