Plus that when you're talking about dubbing you may not get all the voices *kicks the table the PC stands on* I mean here in Romania when they last aired Sailor Moon(Cuz they don't air no other decent anime on the public TV), more than 10 years ago they had(and still have) only ONE person to dubb. A woman pretending to be: -A(or more) junior high-school girl(s) -A(or more) man -A(or more cat(s) -A(or more) daemon(s) Well you get the picture! i saw sailor moon when i was veryyy little and i don't remember very well... but i agree with you. i know that every dubbed cartoon here is a big s***! sorry for the word

1. Perhaps. But most Americans (that I know of) aren't good actors anyway. 2. Perhaps. But there are a lot of things most Americans would never understand or accept, especially the older Americans. For example, they wouldn't understand why a girl is holding a powered round bismarck (a jelly, cream, or chocolate filled donut in the US) and calling it a dumpling [episode 3?]. And they wouldn't understand the fortune telling (especially since we aren't partial to fiddling with sticks to determine things)[episode 2]. 3. Perhaps. That is a major fault of the dub, but remember that there are some things Americans might not accept on a television show (unless it is purposefully meant to be debauched like "Family Guy"). Things like cleavage, boobs, nudity, drunkenness. Not that I'm saying all thigns they cut were of that nature. 4. Perhaps. But a new story is just as acceptable if you've never seen the other, or if you've completely seen the other. DUB fans over here who've only seen the DUB really don't care if they see the SUB, and vice versa. I've seen both. And I like them both. 5. Perhaps. But there was one incident that the DUB hit right: the change from "Moonlight Densetsu" (46) to "Carry On". And while even I could think of better music to play, who wants to hear something in a language you can't understand? People would be confused. 6. Perhaps. But we'd rather hear what the characters have to say in our native tongue rather than having to read it. We're rather lazy like that. But seriously, it's good if you can put a voice on a character in a language you can understand. You can connect with the caharacter more easily. But I do sort of agree. DUB could be better. Much better. I'd rather have the culture I can't understand. I'm accepting like that. You kinda have to be in this world, right? I think you confuse Serena with Raye. Raye is the bitch, remember, while Rei is just mean. Or is that the same thing?

But seriously, it's good if you can put a voice on a character in a language you can understand. You can connect with the caharacter more easily. Well I'm so used to subs that I just hate dubs. Can't stand it. Example: I saw the movie "Cats and Dogs" on Croatian RTL dubbed. It was so lame I couldn't stand it. The voices...I mean, I KNOW THAT IS NOT THE VOICE OF JEFF BRIDGES and it was totally weird! I managed to get half way trough the movie. A few months later the movie was on the Croatian public television subbed. And I was fine with it, I even watched it till the end. I do understand english but for example my mom doesn't and she prefers to watch with subs. People are people and human stories are such that you can relate to them even if you don't hear it in your own language. I watched some Indian movie and even tough it wasn't in my own language I cried my eyes out - I related to the characters. And let's face it - it's an Indian movie. To put English or Croatian voices over it are we really going to fool someone that the action takes place in the US or Croatia? Hell no! I'm so used to subs that I can't even watch movies in my own language any more! ;D ;D ;D

I was referring to Americans (and possibly Brits).
But still, my point is is that if you only saw the DUB, you'd think it was half decent (maybe even good). As an entity separate from the original, it can stand on two legs. But if you compare it to the sub, then it seems crappy.

Bluecosmic: You're 1 year younger than me! Consider that it's very hard for me too to remember something I saw almost 10 years ago! But anyhow Georgeta Chira still makes dumb solo Dubs

It's terrible!! I stopped the episode at 1 minute! IT WAS HORRIBLE! GOD Usagi's supposed to be like I don't know around 19 but her voice is at least 30! Blah! And Chibi Moon... well I won't even get to Chibi Moon! [shrugs]
*sniff I miss Georgeta Chira!*

Foist of all: Usagi's only FOURTEEN. And her voice, as I recall in the DUB, sounded only, like, 1 or 2 years off. In the original, she sounds one or two years younger than she should IMNSHO. And Chibi Usa also sounds a bit older than she should for... what? four years old? In the SUB she sounds right, though... I guess... It's not that bad.

Japanese women have naturally higher voices than American women, I've heard. Almost all anime cast women with high voices.

Originals for me... I hadn't realised how much had been "filtered" in the American dub. SM wasn't the only one that suffered, other dubs of One Piece and Yugi-Oh were also heavily editted. Take the main character Luffy from One Piece for example. I thought he was only around 10 or 12 due to his voice after watching the dub... only to find out that he was actually 17!!!

See? I told you they sound too young. The DUB producers may have heard his original voice and seen his scrawniness that they thought he was 12 or so. Oh, well. And now, for something completely different.
