So I have finished all the Japanese anime, and I was bored, so I came up with the brilliant idea to watch the dubs, because that's what I used to love when I was little.
And I really never noticed how much they changed the dialogue!
I stuck through with the horrible voices (Haruka and Michiru's voices sound completely - ick!) and changed dialogue until I got to this line (episode 92, the secret of Haruka)
Minako: I am so lucky today! This guy is a total hunk-a-saurus!
And then I felt like throwing up and I couldn't go further into the episode. Plus I really couldn't stand the voices anymore.
I'm kind of sad though, because I used to love the dubbed version when I was little, and now I think it's horrible, which feels like I'm betraying my childhood memories, lol.

the US version uses slang of the time which the japanese version uses normal talk - its only natural it ages faster, but that seems to be the same with most US things to be frank :/
its also said serena spoke valley girl talk deliberate during it as she does't in the future as neo queen serenity - something to hilight the supposed air headness.

I'm so obsessive about this sort - alright, about lots of stuff. So much I had to come back and edit my post now because I felt I wasn't entirely clear and really didn't like how I worded myself before. The dub definitely had a fair share wrong with it. I agree with a lot of the gripes I see and obviously, I didn't bother to go back and keep watching it once new episodes were bought (my memory is fuzzy, but I believe that was after the few times it was restarted once hitting a certain point in the Black Moon arc and eventually being taken off the air for a while). By that time I preferred to try and get my hands on the originals instead, even if it was still kind of difficult for me at that point. I was going through my "zomg, all dubs are evil" phase. Regardless, for example, I can still watch "Day of Destiny" and not go into a fit of foaming at the mouth twitching, even while the voices aren't the best (though I believe some could've been worse) and knowing there is a ton cut out. Honestly, I think it all boils down to nostalgia. Sailormoon suffered some bad blows while being filtered through the dubbing process, ones I can't stand these days. Still, I find myself fond of what I remember watching of it (even while giggling at their strange, alien valley girl speak). Heck, I still slip and use the dub names every once in a while. Wow, hello. Long winded! Oh well. I hope I didn't offend anyone! That certainly wasn't my intention. To actually contribute to something brought up in the opening post, I don't think that you have to love and cherish the dub just because you adored it when you were younger. Though compared to that horrible live-action Saban wanted to spawn, I think it's pretty golden. xD

I know, I get that feeling too. (Not just throwing up, I mean what you said about betraying childhood memories as well. I grew up with the dub, so I feel your pain, lol)
But, yeah, I especially do not like Michiru's dub. Haruka's...I can live with. Its Michi's that makes me want to bash me head against a wall.

Minako: I am so lucky today! This guy is a total hunk-a-saurus! Noone in their right mind would say that. The dub writers were clearly crunked when they wrote this or they are complete idiots.

No... no lol I watched it when it released in America, no one talked like that, it's more like what the writers THOUGHT young people talked like, believe me, no 14 year old would ever say that even back then lol. It's always so funny to hear what older people THINK the young people say, because they're always WAAAAY off.

lol well its hard to say no-one would do something... thats all i'm saying but still her voice bothered me more than any attempt at hip words (from my view anyways because the programs from america are nearly always years behind shown here on the free channels - I think it was 1999-2000ish when i first saw eps of sailormoon) but to explain what i mean about the voice, its like its a put on well to do voice in many and sereana is a fairly ordinary girl... I mean the other scouts sound normal if you get me

lol, more adventures in Dubland:
I finally pushed farther into the dubbed episode, only to totally spaz out at Mako's voice, and then feel disappointed when they don't say 'make-up'. I don't know, it just sounds a lot cooler when they say 'make-up'. But it was just 'Venus Crystal Power!' (even though it should be Venus STAR Power -.-) and 'Moon Cosmic Power!' I was waiting for the make-up and it never came. xDD lol, don't ask me why that bothers me so much, it just does.

well it was viewed as kiddie(pre teen) material so got some things deliberately changed so it was more appropriate like lines removed on them and bath scenes altered.
some have noticed lots of things editted, of course the most noticable thing is the shameful destruction of the last two eps of season 1 into one ep with a total lack of any feelings in it (kids apparently could't handle what was shown... or so was thought) there is also 4 eps missing from season 1.
the leaving out of 'make-up' i can see, because it would sound more strange in english than japanese, I mean anime uses english as like a buzz word sorta really, where as if they'd included that in the english version - there'd probably be kiddies saying 'mum, where's the makeup? why'd they say that?' if that makes sense...
