This pretty much sums it all up. I also think that's partly because I'm not of that age group anymore. I mean, when I was a little kid, I liked almost anything. I was really sad when I realized how terrible all the shows I had liked really were. I used to really love to watch Yu-gi-oh on Saturday mornings, but eventually I realized it was just a huge, weekly, half hour advertisement for playing cards. Then again, that show originated in Japan, not the U.S.

I used to really love to watch Yu-gi-oh on Saturday mornings, but eventually I realized it was just a huge, weekly, half hour advertisement for playing cards. It's amazing how many kids' shows are really half-hour commercials. It's really nothing today compared to the '80s when every other cartoon was a marketing ploy in disguise, but there are still quite a few. And they work, because there are suckers like me who lap up tie-in toys like crazy.

I am still a kid so I enjoy TV because I have never grown up knowing anything different. But I agree with some things. Some shows just have no point and believe it or not I know a really basic boring thing that goes for ONE minute everyday, HOW RIDICULOUS!!! So there are still good things but not everything. My life as a teenage robot is cool! :-D

I must say, I like older things=P No idea why, but I do. One very good eighties (nineties here^_^) show would be Ronin Warriors. But anyways, I also like most older shows, whether it's actual anime or just cartoons=P Some cartoons these days I can put up with.

If by "worse" you mean "stupider", than I have to say, for the most part, yes.

I agree with you 100 %,V-Chan.In the 1950s through the 1980s,kids got really good quality programming such as "Bugalooos","Captain Kangaroo","Tennessee Tuxedo" and "The Wuzzles". By the 1990s,kids' programming started going downhill a little with garbage like the animated "BeetleJuice" and "Real Ghostbusters Extreme",but the programming was still going strong with shows like "Sailor Moon","Ronin Warriors","Yo Yogi" and "Pirates of Dark Waters". In 2000 -2006,kids' programming started to slide downhill even further with trash like "Doug","Fairly OddParents","Rugrats All Growed Up",etc.Shows like "PowerPuff Girls" and "Dexter's Lab" showed quality in the beginning, but quickly slid into the "stupid and gross plots" category. In 2007 and this year, kids' programming completely died, replaced with sheer stupidity such as " Chowder" and "Billy and Mandy". Kids no longer get to enjoy the exciting adventures of "She-Ra",or funny humour like "Go-Go Gophers";instead, they have to watch meaningless shows like "Ed Edd and Eddy".....the only good quality programming kids have these days are "Pokemon","Totally Spies",the Disney character cartoons,"The Proud Family" and "Kim Possible".

Aw, I don't consider Doug trash, especially the original early '90s run (THE BEEEEEETS!). That was back when Nickelodeon didn't have to rely on RANDOM~~ comedy to make their shows genuinely funny. I hate Totally Spies though. I just think it's so superficial. I know it's supposed to be a parody in some ways, but I just don't see the parody. Where have all the good cartoons for girls gone that don't center around fashion and boys? Kids' tastes change over the years. I think most of the reasons why we love the shows we grow up with are for the nostalgia factor. Seriously, how many times have you gone back to something you loved as a kid and said, "Wow, why did I ever like this?" There are lots and lots of '80s/'90s cartoons that I adored as a kid that I still love today, but I've gone back to some and wanted to kick myself for ever thinking they were good (Howard the Duck, anyone?). I'm sure kids today will do the same thing in about twenty years.

Doug (which is actually the first Nicktoon ever aired) was awesome when it initially ran along with Rocko's Modern Life, The Ren and Stimpy Show, Aaaahh! Real Monsters!, Rugrats (before Dil and Kimi showed up), Hey Arnold!, and The Angry Beavers. Sure, almost of those cartoons used some form of toilet humor, but they also had a lot of themes that were rather witty and mature (such as the "Chokey Chicken" restaurant in Rocko).
These cartoons were the bread and butter of the best Nick had to offer in the 90s. Of course, it's my opinion that they remain the best that channel ever showed, though that can't be said as fact.
As an aside: AoStH, SatAM, where have you gone?

I dunno, I kinda like The Grim Adventures... just kinda. But yea, today's cartoons would be so much better without some half-arsed-americanised-anime-kinda-likes cartoons.
As for Yu-Gi-Oh, I no longer like the series anymore either, but not because it's a half-hour commercial. Nope, because main characters always manage to pull a rabbit out of their... hats! and win fights for their soul/souls of the world/world/galaxy. Don't get me wrong, I love playing the actual game(well, the actual computer game, I never really cared much for IRL CCGs), but the cartoons are downright ridiculous.

I can't watch YGO GX. I enjoyed the original series and it's seasons, as well as the real card game. I do like the Grim Adventures too. Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo are grest cartoons of recent times. I love them!
Now for older cartoons, I love Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Super Mario Bros Super Show (I know many people hated it, but I loved it.), Back to the Future: Animated Series (Remember this? I sure do!), Inspecter Gadget, and the list goes on and on! (Sailor Moon for the win, even though it is an anime!)
But yeah, today's cartoons suck, for the most part. They removed theviolence, which is what made most of those cartoons good! Maybe so, but I'm not for sure. Great cartoons seem to die off as time goes by.
