Okay, nowadays it' REALLY modern to "talk" Japaniese. You all know what I mean - for example, saying "Arigatou, NAME-chan / san / sama / oneechan / oneesama !", "Gomen ne" , "Gomen Nasai", ECT.
Actually, I think that it's kind of... pathetic, unless you REALLY CAN speak this language. Many people consider using this phrases, which can be learned from the episodes of PGSM / BSSM, original, even they consider themselves being able to speak Japaniese " a little "... Isn't that silly? I consider this pathetic, because I originally Japniese people don't copy Americans, do they?

Apparently, Japanese people love using English phrases. Ever hear the word "Engrish?" That refers to when Japanese people try to use English phrases, and just screw it all up. ;D Take into consideration Sailor Moon - their senshi names, their attacks, their items... all of those things are in ENGLISH.
But I think randomly using Japanese phrases when speaking English is pretty silly. It's kind of cute to use -chan at the end of someone's name if they're close to you, or you're good friends - but other than that, don't bother with the others (like -san and -sama). And using "kawaii" if you get really excited about how cute something is, and need a whole different language to express it, that's acceptable, I suppose. But geez, using it all the fricking time for every random Japanse word you know? What's the point? And I hate it when people say they can speak Japanese if they only know a few random phrases -_-

Yes, you're in fact right, Japaniese copy Americans. In Wedding Peach episode number 1, they even say "Nicu gai" which should mean "Nice guy"... But, well, I mean that I haven't seen a Japaniese man dressed as a cowboy. Also, it's driving me CRAZY when someone is writing SENTANCES in Japaniese, even though that he/she does NOT speak even a little Japaniese and he/she only looks up things from a dictionary. Those people actually usually end you writing senseless things. I mean, "kawaii" is alright, but...

But some people want to practice speaking Japanese as much as they can. I do it alot, as you may have noticed. I'm learning new things and, yes I do speak it in public too. But no one minds, as they know how much I love learning and practicing new languages. There's nothing wrong with posting something in Japanese. I mean, at least the ones that know what they're saying show that they do in fact know some Japanese, am I right? I don't see the sillines.

Yeah, I agree with you. I have a friend that does that. Half the time I have no idea what she is saying. But I do think it's kind of annoying if people speak random Japanese and they don't know any of the language. To practice is one thing, but to show off or just to look cool is another.

I've never put a whole lot of thought into it, but I've been picking up odd Japanese mannerisms... I say "eh?" all the time now instead of "huh?"... I didn't even realize until my friends pointed it out. Also, ever since I watched Fruits Basket, I add "desu" to the ends of sentences sometimes. Actually, I think I write with more Japanese than I speak. I've picked up useless phrases and words here and there, but I don't use them in everyday speech. Personally, if one of my friends started using Japanese phrases in regular speech, it would probably get on my nerves... It would look silly for people to use Japanese all the time if all they knew was the basic ten phrases, such as "kawaii", "arigatou", "gomen", "baka"... Then again, some things I only use the Japanese words for... (mostly stuff like "hentai" and "yaoi"... that way most people won't know what you're talking about... ~____~ I also think it's dumb for people to think looking up things word by word in a dictionary and stringing them together will make coherent sentences... That is a blatant display of their ignorance. It doesn't work like that. Watching so much subtitled anime has helped teach me basic sentence structure, but I still don't use such sentences in normal speech or writing. Of course, if it bothers you that people do that, you should just let them and chuckle to yourself about how dumb they sound. That's what I do. ;D

So are we talking about speaking Japanese or writing/typing Japanese? I know alot of people who use the basic Japanese words and phrases online.. I've even done it. I think it all depends on the situation. Like, if you're in an anime chat room or something where pretty much everyone knows what you're saying, then its okay. Just like using 'brb' or 'ttyl' in chat rooms.
I do find it a little annoying when people try to speak random Japanese phrases in public, especially when others may not know what they are saying.
Has anyone seen Gwen Stefani's music video for Hollaback Girl?? I actually like the song, and I like the fact that she is showing mainstream America a little Japanese culture. But at the beginning of the video, she says "aww, supa kawaii". That kindof annoys me.. I don't know, maybe its just the way she says it..

I could care less about people saying it (as long as it's pronounced correctly), but when they're typing and it's something like "Bob-chan! You are so KAWAII for such a BAKA!! Arigatou for being so nice. Uh oh, the denwa is ringing, brb... Gomen nasai for being gone so long!! Ai, ~:::*##kOkOrO##*:::~" I want to strangle them. And when people saw "Mew" or "Meow" after every sentance. It's okay to use as a kind of signature, but when people go "Mew, I went to the store today. There were some hot guys there, meow!" it gets annoying really fast.

Lol, Priss. My stance is that it's ok to use online and with people who also know those particular words, but if you use it with people who don't know, then it's stupid.

As long as they say it right it is alright.I use japanease a lot too.I don't say it a lot in public but when I do someone else is using it as well.In episode 184 of SMStars Seiya says Thank you.and in the SM song 'I Miss You' They use english. So japanease use english and the english speaking people use the japanease in their sentances.

A lot of times, I say japanese too, rarely in public though. But after a while, I got used to it, and keep saying it everyday, like zulio[ no fair].

its funny because one of my best friends just came back in May from going to university in Japan from september. and she is now pretty fluent, that she talks to her self in japanese and I hear her saw a few words now and then when she talks to me..
she now teaches grade school kids japanese (who are asian) for the summer. who are all just adorable.
she always had stories of some random person just coming up to her to speak english just so they can practice.. (they even have an english street corner in Tokyo where every one goes to practice their english and talk to foregniers)
I guess some one just came up to her and told her the time and where the bus station was.. so random.
