hi all.
I was watching the earlier episodes of Stars and was wondering why her earlier transformations into Eternal Sailor Moon (episodes 168-69) did not stick even after the power boost, but it did finally in 172. Why is that?

I know I haven't seen the Stars season yet and won't really be able to help but could it be possible that she wasn't strong enough at first?

Hmm, I always thought is was becuase maybe the senshi gave her extra power to make the transformation stay. It also could have been that Mamoru helped in giving Sailor Moon the power boost, making it stay permantly, or did he? I need to rewatch the Stars season.

Perhaps now that she had found Mamoru/pretty much defeated Nehelania, she had the clear mind and confidence enough to make it stay. The idea that Mamoru lended her power is another good idea.

I think it was like the S season, where she wasn't quite strong enough, but I need to rewatch again to see...been awhile since I've seen the Stars.

My interpretation of the whole thing was that in the end of episode 172, she had just gone through what was arguably the most difficult time of her life up until that point. Mamoru had been taken from her, her friends were trapped in mirrors, she had to struggle through a blizzard and thorns, and even survived Nehellenia's illusions.
If you recall, Nehllenia was attacking her close to the end, but she just accepted the attacks and felt sorry for Nehellenia. Then she shut her eyes and thought about all her friends, and managed to break Nehellenia's curse on the others just with the power of her thoughts. Everyone was revived and told her that she could make it before dawn...
So I think that her determination and strength at that moment is what enabled her to remain for so long as Eternal Sailor Moon for so long. I think she retained this in subsequent episodes...

Mamoru had been taken from her, her friends were trapped in mirrors, she had to struggle through a blizzard and thorns, and even survived Nehellenia's illusions. ...and had her daughter dying in her arms... I agree with Betty Ann. After defeating Nehellenia she had enough power to become eternal by herself and did not need the others' elements to merge.^^ The very first eternal sequence is like the prototype of the actual one for me... I don't like it very much though - it's beautifully drawn, but there is just a zooming out then turning and that's it.
