Okay, so I own a copy of Sailor Stars 1 in English, and I've noticed some discrepencies among cover pictures that I've seen. My cover features the original Japanese picture of Eternal Sailor Moon leaping and holding her staff. However, I've also seen versions of the cover featuring the planetary senshi with wings. Both of these covers are for the English volume 1. So I'm wondering...which one is real? Were 2 versions released of the book? I'm inclined to think of mine as being "correct" as it was given to me by a friend who owned it from the Wayback.

According to The Oracle; ;D But, on Ebay, you can see English copies with the same cover as yours, Ellethwen. One claims that these copies have been out of print since May 2005, while the alternate version (group with wings) was released in March 2001. I can only assume that your copy is a later release, I can't imagine it's a bootleg.

The copy I bought in stores had the original one of Eternal Sailor Moon leaping... I've never even seen the second one

I've never seen the second one either. Mine has the cover with Eternal Sailor Moon.
What I understand is that the second one was an unreleased cover that Tokyopop planned to use before the release of the Stars manga, but changed it back to the original cover. Several websites still have it up as the "official" cover for some odd reason.
That's one of the reasons I don't want Tokyopop to get the Sailor Moon license back. The covers were fine as-is.

Ah, that makes perfect sense! Thank you! ...but they only planned to change 2 covers, and only one was changed. As it is, if they retranslate, it could be awesome. But I really think Del Rey would do a great job. They even preserve honorifics.

Yes, exactly. If anyone got the license back, I would love for Del Rey to get it. I'm not really the biggest Tokyopop fan, can't you tell?

Ha ha yeah. I dont mind then too much... I like the way the manga was handled actualy. It could of been worse. Considering the mass abuse on anime back then, it could of been WAY worse.

Yeah that's how I handled it with the manga lol I was like "well... it could be the dub" and then I was happy with it XD But it would be cool if Del Rey would get it and retranslate it

Heh, my beef with Tokyopop isn't really the way they translated SM -- it's part of it, but it's not the whole thing. It's more along the lines of "HAY GUYS LET'S TAKE THIS CRAPPILY DRAWN AMERICAN COMIC AND CALL IT MANGA AND MARKET IT AS SUCH HURF DURF :B". I mean, the Rising Stars of Manga contest is good for getting aspiring artists a place, but c'mon... so many of them suck, in my opinion. They could label them as "manga-esque," but try as they might, they ain't manga.
Plus, their older comics fell apart so easily -- my SuperS volume 3 is losing a bunch of pages. I do admit their translations have gotten much better, but I still don't care for them much. I much prefer Del Rey and Viz.
... Uh, Ellethwen, you can have your topic back now.

I have seen this before. For some reason I believed Mixx had published it different from Tokyo Pop. Thanks White Rabbit, I did not know the Oracle had and explanation.
A little off subject…but I have two of book four. One Tokyo Pop and one Mixx. I’ve noticed slight difference in them. There might also be some slight difference in the smile magazine when compared to the books but I have to check.
