In the past,we've had some REALLY great childrens' programming such as Bugaloos,The Kukla,Fran and Ollie Show,Funky Phantom,Sailor Moon,Pirates of Dark Waters,The Banana Splits,She-Ra,etc.Now we've got seemingly pointless shows that seem like they are cheaply animated and completely void of plots and fun..shows like Kids Next Door,Chowder,Billy & Mandy,Squirrel Boy,etc. There's only a handful of really good shows(Pokemon, the Disney character cartoons, the Proud Family and Totally Spies). Even the remakes of 80s cartoons like Ninja Turtles and Transformers are pretty bad. What do you guys think?

Biased cartoon fan, coming through! Honestly, I really think it all boils down to personal taste and bias. We're all so used to the cartoons from our childhood that we compare everything from today to what we grew up with. I love shows like Chowder and Camp Lazlo because they remind me of Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy from when I was a kid. A lot of kids' cartoons are pretty well-written today, even if they don't look like it. A good example is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. A lot of '80s/early '90s cartoons focused mostly on action, mid-to-late '90s cartoons focused on the gross-out, wacky humor, and today's cartoons are... well, they aren't much different from late '90s cartoons. I do wish they'd cut down on the crappy Flash-animated shows, though. The only one I've seen it do well, again, is Foster's. Also, I want to point out that the new Ninja Turtles cartoon is based on the original comic series. That's why it's so drastically different than the '80s show. Fast-Forward, however, I have NO explanation for. (And I won't bother putting my input in on Transformers, as I could go on and on as to why I love Armada through Animated as well as Generation 1. )

To me, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network have hit rock bottom. Whereas many cartoons up until a few years ago were a combination of sight gags and subtle humor, most if not all the cartoons these days seem to aim for the lowest common denominator, throwing paltry toilet humor around and simply copying the anime style to make it look hip.
Let's not even get started on the trickling in of flash produced cartoons on TV.
Animators have become lazy (look at Family Guy), writers even more so. Worst yet, all the classics---Looney Toons, Flintstones, etc.---are being totally phased out as if they don't exist anymore. I'd watch some of the old school stuff if it were still on. Unfortunately, that's not really the case now.

Perhaps there has been a shift of interest since 10+ years ago in Kids TV as opposed to now? Anyways I remember a lot of the shows back then as well and I really liked them when I was a kid... but some of the stuff such as Kids Next Door I just find pointless and annoying. Oh by the way haha I think there's a TV station called Boomerang that airs all of the old Cartoon Network Shows such as The Jetsons, Flinstones, Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery? But it is one of the stations you have to pay for.

I have it, but my point is that some of the best cartoons ever produced have been relegated to a 2nd tier channel while a bunch of unimaginative and "hip" shows take their place. Try finding Looney Toons nowadays. It's incredibly difficult to find them on TV when, just a decade ago, they were on every day.

Oh, how I miss Looney Toons...
I think some of the shows have merit, but some of them are incredibly pointless. Right around the time of Day of the Dead, I saw a show that was obviously centered around that. Except, I thought it was a useless show to have made. What could have been a really good show to teach kids about a custom from a foreign culture wound up lessening the importance and meaning of that holiday in Mexico.
I forget what the cartoon was. I know it featured a heavily Hispanic cast, which was refreshing and made up for the cartoon itself.

While I definitely agree that Looney Tunes is one of THE BEST cartoons ever, and I agree that Cartoon Network is *makes poop noise*, I actually like Nickelodeon. I mean SOME shows are stupid, and the majority of the weekday is devoted to children's shows (like Maisy and Dora the Explorer), I actually enjoy Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents, and I love Nick at Nite Fresh Prince is awesome. Though that is off the topic of cartoons. As for Cartoon Network, I pretty much like Family Guy... and sometimes Robot Chicken (though can that REALLY be considered a cartoon?) But if any cartoon channel sucks thoroughly... it is DISNEY! lol All I like on Disney is that silly cute little Pucca show and they play the old Batman cartoon (not the REALLY old cheesy one, the old cool one) and I love to watch that... But yeah, most NEW new cartoons suck. And some of the newer episodes of Spongebob are pretty... bleck. Although the new Fairly Oddparent episodes this week I've enjoyed!

I really can't stand it when I see a recycled joke. A while ago some of my younger brothers where watching newer episodes of All That on Nickelodeon. They had different kids doing the whole Good Burger skit! Honestly! They made a movie about it with Keenan and Kel! If those two aren't in the Good Burger skit some how, then a part of it is lost to me.

Please tell me that's some sort of sick joke. ;_; What I wouldn't give for some of the good old-fashioned original All That that didn't rely on lolrandom! humor.

I have never heard of many of the 'new' kid's tv shows that you guys don't like, but I must say I really love Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents! I tend to sit and watch the Aussie kids shows when I'm not at work or school, and they're ok! I guess there's always going to be good and bad, maybe as we get older, we notice the bad more.

3 words:
On. Demand. Televison.
It's the future!(or in my case, the mid-80's-early-90's)
