I have to say that surprises me I really like Makoto's voice for just that reason -- I think it comes across as tough, I wouldn't use the word "butch" but then I don't think the character is either. I loved the way the actress portrays the conflict between her masculine and feminine side in the crucial episode 29, for instance.
I'll have to go and re-watch some dub now to see how it compares.....
From now on I will name the dub SM characters for example Serena etc. And the original in Japanese example Usagi because I am sick of saying 'dub Usagi', 'Usagi's english voice actress' You probably dont get me ^_^;
I dont see a problem with Makoto's voice ^_^; Makoto's voice actress (or seiyuu) Shinohara Emi is awsome! She can change her voice from slightly high when she is in love to low when she's angry (scary) ^_^;
Lita's voice sounded good but there wasnt any tone change like Makoto, when shes either angry or happy she sounded the same all over.
I watched Makoto's seiyuu's recent role, which was Claymore as Ophelia, and it sounded just like Makoto (though she over 40 now ^_^ and uses the EXACT same tone (you guys and girls should watch it some time but they deleted most of the english subs, only the fench, spanish and other subs are left). High when normal or playing a death game and low when awakened or angry.
Plus she is a great singer! check out her latest image song for Ophelia, its not happy but it sounds quite good ^_^

I liked the first dub actress for Serena better than the two, sounded less adult-like.
Mitsuishi Kotono-san is the best of all!! ^_^ Her voice is the most recognisable and memorable of the original! Sadly she didnt do all 200 episodes of her role because she went ill in the last parts of the classic and first parts of R
Kae Araki (we know plays Chibiusa) replaces her
Note: It was Mitsuishi-san's Bithday 2 days ago ^_^ Just to let you know

There is one kids cartoon that was on a while ago on ABC kids Australia, which really gets on my brains and nerves the Canadian cartoon "Elliot Kid"! Urgh...!! I HATE that show sooo much so I nicknamed it 'Idiot Kid'. His Imagination are just too over insane (In my point of view)!
There was this one episode about a Japanese exchange student who came to Elliot's house. Elliot thinks he is an alien from outer space and even the japanese words the exchange student says is Alien language in his point of view. His parents tell him he is not an alien but a person from a different country, but he doesnt even listen.
I mean...the directors trying to convince kids that Japanese people are aliens from another planet. I thinks thats wrong!

Ive only seen ep 2 the show from my dad's friend who downloaded it on the internet and because I live in a place where they dont show it (I meant a different country). Also it the only episode we have...
But It was soo cool! I was Jumping up and down when I watched it!!! ;D
Japanese women have naturally higher voices than American women, I've heard. Almost all anime cast women with high voices.
Rediting my bit... True, all of the Seiyuu (with the exception of Ogata Megumi and a few others...) have high voices I have been listening to the SM songs sung by the seiyuu, for a while, and the high voices make the really, really, really good singers ^_^ Even if I only know 5% of what they are saying.
I agree with you 100 %,V-Chan.In the 1950s through the 1980s,kids got really good quality programming such as "Bugalooos","Captain Kangaroo","Tennessee Tuxedo" and "The Wuzzles". By the 1990s,kids' programming started going downhill a little with garbage like the animated "BeetleJuice" and "Real Ghostbusters Extreme",but the programming was still going strong with shows like "Sailor Moon","Ronin Warriors","Yo Yogi" and "Pirates of Dark Waters". In 2000 -2006,kids' programming started to slide downhill even further with trash like "Doug","Fairly OddParents","Rugrats All Growed Up",etc.Shows like "PowerPuff Girls" and "Dexter's Lab" showed quality in the beginning,but quickly slid into the "stupid and gross plots" category. In 2007 and this year,kids' programming completely died,replaced with sheer stupidity such as " Chowder" and "Billy and Mandy". Kids no longer get to enjoy the exciting adventures of "She-Ra",or funny humour like "Go-Go Gophers";instead,they have to watch meaningless shows like "Ed Edd and Eddy".....the only good quality programming kids have these days are "Pokemon","Totally Spies",the Disney character cartoons,"The Proud Family" and "Kim Possible".
Kids shows these days are getting boring and boring than before, Ill stick with the awsome 90's anime such as Sailor Moon, Pokemon etc. and the very early 21st century cartoon and anime shows. I really DONT like most shows. When I go to the Philippines and watch cartoons on cable I just either wait for my fave shows to come up or just watch any random show I find pretty good.
Cartoon network stinks, I HATE almost every single show shown there, except for PPG and the Anime shows shown on CN. Thats why I dont watch CN that often when Im on Holidays.
Nick is not that bad there are a few shows that are not good. I like a few of the Spongebob, fairly odd parents and Danny Phantom eps. As well as a few other Nick shows, which I wont mention.
Disney channel is the one I frequently watch, though I dont like Lilo and Stich, the weekenders and some cartoons on disney that arent of my interest
Before my love for Sailor Moon I used to (and slightly still) loved the three French anime shows 'Totally Spies' 'Martin Mystery & "Team Galaxy'. They were pretty popular, though some people dont like it.

Dont worry all of u guys, I live in the Australian Top End...lol and the only place you can get manga is in a comic book shop, a few minutes drive from where I live. But the manga are sooooo expensive (they dont have SM manga there *sobs*), also there are SM DVDs: English (DIC) and the S & super S uncuts. But they're for borrowing
Plus there are hardly any SM fans in the North and some of the people who used to watch it think it for little girls...lol... Beside the Place is small...
We already talked about Puu, but what's wrong with Ami in stars?
She stalks a lot, not only to be with the others, I mean, she also stalks sometimes on her own... Sometimes she's even kind of psychopathic too, you know, in this episode, when Seiya was visiting Usagi, and then all people popped up - the other Inners, the other Lights and Haruka as well as Michiru. When the Inners were cooking, the scene where she peels that potatoe or yam... with that big knife... that's so creepy
*Thinks logically* Speaking of Ami cutting the vegetable, since I have seen this episode a gizilion times lol, Usagi said to Ami that she was overpeeling. The reason why is because Ami was upset that Usagi has a crush on Seya (or something like that).
And Ami popping up with her round glasses, there was one episode (which I might have mentioned before) where Ami pops up out of nowhere without them. It was when Seya asked Usagi out on their first date (it was in the begining of the ep).
Ami IS a bit of a stalker...I think the creator might have boosted Ami's personality higher, and because she is 16, lots of things change in their personalities (I wont mention them). Plus hanging out with Rei, Makoto and Minako (according to what a few people said) might have caused her to have her persona to change.
Yet some of Ami's traits are still there, such as when she didnt want Maker to Kill Sensei.
