In defense of Seiya …or, “It’s hard being both man and woman. And I’m in love with another woman.” Uhh, poor Seiya!! There are lots of articles that defends Mamoru, but in spite of his (…her?) popularity, Seiya doesn’t have a huge amount of articles that defends him. So, I’m going to write an article that tries to answer all the most common arguments. They’re not in importance order.
-Seiya is a female! “He” is a “she”! Yes, in the manga version he is actually a she. In the anime, he’s both male and female. And so? Aren’t you familiar with lesbian love in Sailor Moon? What about Haruka and Michiru? They’re both female, and proud to be also lovers. Love is something that goes over the distinctions of the gender. So, I personally believe that people who don’t accept it are a) homophobic, b) too fond with Mamoru. Of course, Usagi isn’t a lesbian. But what if Mamoru would die in the fifth season? Personally, I believe that she would love Seiya. She doesn’t only because of Mamoru. But I don’t know, it’s only my opinion.
-Usagi doesn’t love him! Are you completely sure about it? Let’s think about it. Yes, she loves Mamoru. But for Seiya, you have to admit that there is a little more than friendship… First, she blushes all the times that Seiya is near. Okay, Seiya is also very handsome, but how many times Usagi is near very handsome guys, like Tiger’s eye for example, and she doesn’t blush in that way? Second, she’s worried about him. She saves him a lot of times. She does it for almost all the characters, I know, but there is something more with him. She looks really worried. I think that she likes him, and without Mamoru, she would fall in love immediately. Unfortunately, Mamoru’s alive and he loves her.^^
-Mamoru is Usagi’s destined love! There’s nothing you can do about it! Okay, I have to admit that this is difficult. Of course, Endymion and Serenity were the chosen ones. But it happened in their past lives. Now, they’re the reincarnations. They can change their lives. The destiny is important, but not everything is chosen by it. As seen in Sailor Moon, you can change it. Remember what happened when Nehellenia was about to win? Chibiusa was vanishing. Only Usagi changed the new future and returned to the old one…but this is a proof: the destiny can be changed.
-Kakyuu is Seiya’s destined love! Again, the same thing that I wrote before. And also, who tells you that Kakyuu loves the Starlights?? They’re her guardians, not her lovers! Even if they loves her, I don’t think that she does.
-Mamoru loves Usagi more! What?! Excuse me, but I really don’t think so. For me, there are two ways: a) they love her in the same way. b) Seiya loves her more (wait!!! It’s only an opinion !!XD)The first is quite comprehensible: they both love her, but they show it in different ways. And of course, Seiya’s love is more recent, Mamoru loves her from the first season, but it’s clear that Seiya has a more “passionate” temper. He simply fell in love, it’s that simple. My second statement is more difficult to accept. I know it. But try to understand me. Seiya would sacrifice his/her life even if he loves her from one season. Mamoru sacrifice himself only because he discovers that Usagi is actually Sailor Moon (in the first season, I mean), and his destined love. Also, Seiya loves her so much that he decides to leave her, he doesn’t even try to “fight” with Mamoru. And you have to admit it: this is so romantic…In the last episode, Mamoru seems so superb to me. He knows that Usagi loves him, or something. He isn’t even jealous! But look at Seiya’s eyes in the same episode: he’s full of contrasting feelings, I mean, he’s jealous, he’s in love, he’s sad, he’s angry!!! Tell me when Mamoru shows all these feelings during the seasons, and I’ll accept that Mamoru is better^^.
-Mamoru is always protecting Usagi as Tuxedo Kamen! When does Seiya protect her? Ehm…always? ^^ Okay, he’s not omnipresent as Mamoru… (but he doesn’t say silly and boring things when he appears as Sailor Star Fighter^^). And by the way: Tuxedo Kamen is more a distraction for the enemies, in the anime version, than a powerful warrior… and in the most difficult situations, is always Usagi that saves Mamoru…^^While Sailor Star Fighter has very powerful attacks. (And less important^^ my God, she’s so elegant without any old style clothes!)
-Chibiusa won’t be born without Mamoru! Again, read the third reason. I don’t think that destiny is decided once and forever. Of course, in this case we talk about a person, so I understand that it could be difficult to accept. Also, without Small Lady three main villains wouldn’t be destroyed (Wiseman, Mistress9, Nehellenia). I have to confess that Chibiusa is too much important to the story, to accept that she will never come to light. But in some ways I created a very personal theory about that. Read the conclusion.
Very personal conclusion: I came up with a theory. I didn’t read it anywhere, I completely created it. So, take a look at the beloved ones of the Princesses. Yes, “ones”, not “one”…also Chibiusa has to choose between two guys: Helios and Peruru…^^(and it could be interesting to write an article about them, too^^) They’re very similar in the body, like Seiya and Mamoru. Both couples of guys are deeply in love with their princess. But the girls have the power to decide whom is better for them. Perhaps the Fate provided two “Prince Charming” instead of one!!!^^ So that if something happens to the first one…there’s always the second^^.
°§*°§*°§*°§*° That’s all, folks. What do you think about my theory?^^ Would you like to tell me something?^^ If you want to, contact me!! This is my only msn address: axel_kh@virgilio.it Hope you enjoyed reading my little article! ^^ Kisses, °*Lady Lilith*°

I enjoyed your article, ladylilith! You presented many common arguments against Seiya and Usagi and I found most of your rebuttals satisfying. Like you said in your "He is a she" argument, I don't see how people can be homophobic and like Sailor Moon. However, the arguement that people are "too fond of Mamoru" could be said for Seiya as well. Your theory is also interesting. I never thought of that... Anyway, I think the "Mamoru vs. Seiya" argument is one that will last between moonies until the end of time. ^.^

Thank you all!! for moonstar: oh, well, this is another theoryXD I think that almost every fan of sailor moon has one....It's very probable, anyway, that their real form is female. But I still love....Seiya's loveXD She is so romantic...and sad... for numbmelody: hihi, my second statement was a little ironic^^ I don't understand why they can't simply accept that Seiya loves a girl^^And it's also a very pure and innocent love! I don't understand!!! °*Seiya :-*Usagi *°XDDDDD

You made some good points there, I really liked it. ;D I for one, love the whole Seiya and Usagi relationship even though I like Mamoru too. But woah, Seiya fell in love with Usagi because of who she was, so I liked that even more. In your Usagi doesn’t love him! part, I agree with you. I mean, she loves Mamoru, but Im guessing she'll always have that type of different love for Seiya. If she'd never met Mamoru, I think she'll go for Seiya. That's just my opinion. I personally love StarS because of their relationship, very cute. In episode 194, I would have really liked to see what she was thinking when Seiya asked Usagi, the "Am I not good enough?" question. I wonder what she was thinking. Anyways, I think your article was great!!

You presented a lot of great arguements before, even a couple I've never thought of...not going to mention what it was, I'll look like an idiot. ^^; ANYWHO, you were thorough and I like how you added some personality and humor in it, not to mention yuor own opinion. ^^

Hey ladylilith, thanks so much for offering to put your article on my site!! I will put it up soon... but first, I need to make a few edits/corrections. I put everything RED that I corrected (mostly just grammatical things). When you approve my corrections, I'll put your article up! Thanks so much - it's a really good article! A few comments: In the first argument, you say that Usagi doesn't love Seiya... and in the next argument, you say that she does!! I think that the wording needs to be changed on that. You can't argue against yourself. …or, “It’s hard being both man and woman. And I’m in love with another woman.” Uhh, poor Seiya!! Okay don't get mad at me or anything, but I love debating! So here's some things!!
This one is more of a correction on the fans then you: On Kakyuu is Seiya's destined love, he's not at ALL. In fact, in the manga Kakyuu has a completely different love. So if you wanted to add that in there you can.
Now this is more debating then correcting (as in it has nothing to do with fixing the article, I just like to argue! lol)
First of all, I really think that Mamoru liked Usagi even before he knew anything about their past life (this is more evident in the manga) and he still would give his life for her even IF she wasn't Sailor Moon. "In the last episode, Mamoru seems so superb to me. He knows that Usagi loves him, or something. He isn’t even jealous!" Well, there's a verse in the Bible that says "Love is never jealous. Meaning it's a GOOD thing he's not jealous. I'm not saying Seiya doesn't love him. Jealousy springs from liking someone and thinking they are going to leave you for someone else or love someone else more. Mamoru KNOWS he loves Usagi and KNOWS that Usagi loves him, and that she would never do something like that to him because he trusts her. It isn't him being cocky, it's just love. As for Seiya, well Mamoru is already with Usagi and she actually DOES love him more, so it's okay for Seiya to be jealous here and still love her.
That's all I wanted to say! I always like presenting both sides of the argument... actually you did a pretty good job of presenting both sides in this! But I do suggest you add in that Kakyuu HAS a lover in the manga, just as more "evidence"
