If Spyware is your proble, try Spybot or Ad-Aware. Both free and work like a charm.

I happen to like Alwil Avast! Antivirus. It's a free program, and works very well. The best part is that it runs silently behind the scenes the whole time it's working, so you don't have to run scans--it's doing that all the time. I've been saved from viruses several times because a warning (complete with sound effects) popped up when it found one. Although, if it's very very bad, you may have to reinstall. You won't lose files, however if the files themselves are infected then you'll have an issue. Run a scan first with a program and see if that gets rid of it. If it doesn't, but your files check out, back them up on something like a jump drive, then reinstall Windows, or whatever you use. Good as new. =D

I'm online again!! After spending some time panicking I found someone to help me fix my laptop without charging me. My husband found someone who works in his office thats a "computer guru" and he took my laptop for a few days, uploaded Ad-Aware and a few other things. He said my laptop had a virus, but he got rid of it. I also somehow managed to lock myself out, I tried calling Dell Tech Support, but the problem there was I couldn't understand the support guy for the life of me. I felt so bad constantly having to say "what"? Either way he wasn't much help, he told me he could help but at the cost of losing everything on my laptop. Luckily I found the guru or well my husband did. So i'm online again. Thank you everybody for the support. Its nice to count on ppl even its a family from a forum.

Wasn't really a virus, just a rogue antispyware/virus program. One of those things that get in your face claiming you have a(or more)security breach[es] and XYZ infections.
They also demand you fork over lots of dough to get an update that'll fix everything(even though nothing needs fixing)

yeah thats basically what happened. a bubble popped up that said i have a security problem then immediately afterwards popups came up saying i needed to install antivirus 2009, after the installation it told me that that the installation wouldn't work until i bought the license for it which was $50 for a year or $80 for 3 years. I didn't buy either. I need to tell the husband to cut back on what he looks up on my laptop...its my pink laptop not his...
