Basically what I am asking is, is it bad to have low self-esteem?

In my book it is (and I have low self-esteem).
Let's just say that if you have low self-esteem, you're pretty much going around telling yourself that you're a bad person for absolutely no reason at all a lot of the time. And that's not healthy mentally.
Everybody should like themselves. I mean, you shouldn't be a snob, but you shouldn't hate yourself.

As do I. I have depression also so that's not a good thing.

Yeah, definitely something you want to work on if you suffer from it. Not an easy thing, I know from personal experience, but not impossible.

Ah it's not a terribly good thing and I'm sure a lot of have had experience with it. Although the good side I guess is that most people with low-self esteem aren't arrogant?

I definatly don't think having low self-esteem is a good thing, but, like the others have said, you can improve it. I know that by talking to someone, like a counsellor, or chaplain, you can improve your self-esteem Sentai Warrior, and you depression too.

As do I. I have depression also so that's not a good thing. Ditto on both accounts. My self esteem is also very low and I just can't seem to find ways to bring it up, even for a bit. *hugs*

According to my health textbook, you are prone to trying drugs, drinking alcohol, committing violent acts, getting pregnant, and getting killed if you have low self-esteem.
No, I'm not kidding, it really says that...
I have low self-esteem too. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it can limit you from doing things that you like. To help my case of low self-esteem, I try to think that I'm just as good as anybody else and not to think of life as a competition.

Well, having a low self-esteem can be bad at some times, it can even lead you to a some sort of depression, and like SeraFirefly sad, you are prone to bad things, like drugs, alcohol and others. You should like yourself, but not to much, or you'll become arrogant.

Having low self-esteem is better than no self-esteem. But, it's always good to have some self-esteem. Not too little, nor too much.
