What was your first impression of sailormoon? Was it insta-love, or more of a "wtf is this" kind of thing... Or, maybe somewhere in the 'meh' category? Did you know what anime was when you saw it... or did you just find it on normal tv?
and... if you were to discover SM today, do you think you'd have the same reaction as you did before?
For me, I found it dubbed and fell in love with it instantly. I didn't know what anime was at the time, but I knew I loved the style and the general plot.
As for me being as obsessed as I am today... I'm not sure. It's hard to say, but chances are I probably would still react the same, but I may have my interest "toned down" somewhat.

I can't remember what my first impression of Sailor Moon was, it's been that long! Actually it's been almost nine years or so, but I can barely remember what I did yesterday, so asking me to remember what my first impression of SM was is out of the question. I just remember one of my friends showing me the DiC dub, and I loved it. Then I got online and heard about the original, asked my aunt to buy me the VHS fansubs of Sailor Stars for my birthday (which I still have!), and it all went from there.
But if I saw Sailor Moon today, I don't know if I would have the same reaction. I don't care for a whole lot of magical girl anime outside of Sailor Moon, so I'm not sure whether or not I would be interested in it. I became attracted to Sailor Moon because of Usagi, so maybe I would, just maybe not as intense as it is now. XD

My first reaction to Sailor Moon was that I LOVED it! I was like 10 or so years old so it didn't seem so annoying back then lol. If I hadn't known anything about it, and all of the sudden flipped past it today I would probably gag lol And I am proud to state my obsession is just as strong now as it was back then Actually moreso lol I didn't even KNOW about the original till I was like 12 or 13 I would also like to point out to all the dub-defenders that while I DID fall in love with it instantly, if it had been dubbed properly I would have loved it just the same, and I would still love it the same Just felt the need to get that out there so I wouldn't get any "see if it weren't for the dub you wouldn't like Sailor Moon" or "you wouldn't have liked it the same at that age had it not been dubbed for children" responses hehehe

Well, I saw the original first I got into it through my friend Elaine who was (and is) obsessed to about the same degree I have become... in the IRC channel we both frequented, she would often be giving us only half her attention, and talking constantly about what was happening in the SM episode she was watching at the time So, when I decided to give it a go, I was already prepared to stick it out for a while even if I wasn't enraptured from the beginning. I liked episode 1, but by about 3 I was a bit tired of Sailor Moon not being able to fight and Tuxedo Mask always having to rescue her, but fortunately Elaine was on hand to assure me that this did change later on A number of the early episodes I still find a bit tedious, but once Rei had appeared I was completely hooked... for me the main fascination was and still is the interplay between the characters -- and secondarily the show's ability to create atmosphere and tension, first seen in that awesome sequence in episode 10 when the buses start disappearing. I certainly knew what anime was, since I went to a dedicated anime site to watch the episodes but it was the first anime I'd seen.

I was very very young (I was 4-5 years old) when Sailor Moon first aired here in Italy, so I don't' remember clearly. If I saw Sailor Moon today, my reaction would be different, but It would strongly depend on which series/episode I saw (I.E., I would instantly fall in love with the series with any of the S season episodes XD)

I was about your same age Michele when I saw BSSM by the first time so I don't remember I grew up with it and when I saw the original version (when I was about 11) I fell in-love with it If I saw Sailor Moon nowaday, I'd still like it, I like shoujo anime

My friend had a doll, so she talked about it, and sometimes sang the theme song (english). Soooooo,,,,I was used to it. My expression was probably like this

^ Seiza showed it to me. She's like "okay, go on youtube. Now, type in 'Sailor moon episode 1'. Now click on the first one."
I thought it was pretty cool. I watched 8 episodes in one night... then my mom told me to get off.

Uhm, I was just sitting on the living room floor one day, flipping through the channels after school, and I saw the DIC dub.
I was hooked. No questions.
Once the DIC dub went off air, I forgot a lot of things, but I still thought about it from time-to-time. It wasn't until I saw a music video by a friend's sister that I was rehooked--only, this time on the original.

The first thing I ever saw for Sailor Moon was the commercial for the seven inch dolls. I very distinctly remember being like "wtf those are stupid" and just sort of left it at that. Then came summer vacation. I was visiting my mom and happened to catch the show while I was flipping channels. I was completely obsessed after that and had to have everything.
When I got back home, I was on the hunt. Ended up calling a ton of comic book stores and was lucky enough to find one that had loads of imported Sailor Moon stuff.

- To answer truthfully: I was literally thinking: "What is this crap?!" Then, like an addiction, I started watching it more and more. I then started to love it. Same thing happened to me with Yugioh.
Did you know what anime was when you saw it... or did you just find it on normal tv?
- I had no idea what anime was at the time. To be honest, I never knew what anime was for years after I first saw it.
and... if you were to discover SM today, do you think you'd have the same reaction as you did before?
- If I never discovered SM till today, I would have the same reaction. I would most likely hate it, then learn to love it. Some TV shows/animes/etc just work their magic with me that way, I guess.

I had the same impression as BTTF Rini. At first I thought "Omg, this is way too cheesy" but I saw it more and more on tv. When nothing was on I decided "Ah well, let's watch it". At the end I liked it a little more but everytime I was bored I would watch it. After a while I got the video and such. When I was about 11 I was browsing the internet and saw a picture of "Serena" and instantly remembered her from the series so I looked it up on youtube and came across the original. From there, it was instant love

Like ladylilith, it was love at first sight. XD I can't really remember the first episode I saw, but I know I was instantly hooked when I was about 6. I remember it got moved to very early in the morning, so I would set my SM alarm clock for 6am, and get up and do the 'Oz Style' aerobics so I would be awake for SM. As much as I loved the dub, I always knew something was a bit odd, and I was so happy when I got the original series. I had no idea what anime was, all I knew was that this show was so detailed and the characters were so pretty, I thought all other animation was 'ugly' compared to SM. If I saw it today, I think I would still love it, one of the reasons that first liked it was how much I can relate to Usagi, being a super-klutz myself, and what a 'average' person she was.

I would most likely hate it, then learn to love it. That happens to me way too often. LOL the same thing happened with me and Yugioh as it did with you too. I'm currently watching the abridged series on youtube... after not seeing the series in like 7 years... oh man i wanna go and rewatch the entire series now. lol yay summer!
