ok, so I know that my XP doesn't have a dvd burner in it, but is there still a way to burn? I mean I've tried downloading several burners, but they haven't put anything on the disk. I need help!

Is your drive DVD-compatible? You can't burn DVDs unless your drive can play them. Look on the front of the CD tray and see if it has the DVD logo on it. You might be able to burn CD-Rs with video on them, but they aren't very good quality and don't hold nearly as much as DVDs do.

Make sure it's a DVD-RW.

Firstly: The drive itself must be a DVD-RW (like thereisnospoon said) it doesn't matter if your drive has the little DVD symbol if it doesn't have RW on it too, otherwise it can only PLAY DVDS not write them. GOOD DVD-RWs are available to buy at walmart for about 50 bucks. (at least mine was that much, and it came with a really good 'burning' program) Anyway, the next step is you have to get a blank dvd disc (I'm sure you know this...) it's gotta be blank, and it has to be DVD, and it has to be big enough to hold whatever you want to hold on it. The best to get is again a DVD-RW otherwise if you get a DVD-R disc you can only burn on it once, and then if you did it incorrectly or if you decide you want to erase that one and put something different on it... too bad! you gotta toss it! The third problem is the file type. Now, I really can't help you specifically with this one >_< I just know that only certain files will work. All files pretty much will burn onto a DVD, but if you stick it into a DVD player it won't always work. I can't even remember what file format it was, but me and my friend tried to stick some Sailor Moon episodes on a DVD and it didn't play... I think they have to be non-program specifics. As in they can't be Realplayer files or Quicktime files or even WMVs but I may be wrong... so don't quote me on that one Anyway you'll have to get someone else to help you with that particular piece.... But, the one I use is Nero, and it does quite well I got it with my drive, and I know I got it somewhere else at some point... but heck if I remember!! Hope I helped >_<

I dunno, Nero's always been really glitchy for me. I like ConvertXToDVD. It's a simple program, but lets you add things like subtitle files and extra audio tracks. The only thing I really liked about Nero was that the DVD menus were entirely customizable, but ConvertXToDVD is close to the same. It's never messed up burning a DVD for me, but when I used Nero I just got lots and lots of useless DVD-Rs.

Well, I know what you mean, back when I had the old version of Nero (I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I GOT IT! lol) it was totally screwed up and extremely confusing. But the version I got with my new DVD-RW is completely fine and I haven't had any problems

You can burn any sort of file on a DVD(tbh, Nero Burning Rom is my all time favorite burning software), but not all DVD players have the same file compatibility lists(check your player's manual for this one) Oh and a quick note: don't get scared if you see drives labeled DVD+RW, it's just a more awesome type of DVD... mmm, random access writing...
