diffs between the "dubbed" manga and the original?

This is something I've wondered about. I know the names have been changed, but are there any other differences between the official English translated manga and the original Japanese version?

I was reading a scanlated version of the re-released 2003 version I found of volume 1, and noticed some small differences between it and the official english version. I know usually there's differences between translated versions anyway, but there's a few where it seemed like things were left out. For instance, in act 3 on pg 4, the scanlation has Nephrite calling himself the "head of the North American division" and Jediete was referred to as "head of the far Eastern division". There wasn't anything like that in the official Eng version. ; Perhaps it was something added into the 2003 version only? Argh, I wish I knew Japanese. -_-

Well, that was respected in the Spanish version of the manga -which I've read-
But they destroyed it; for example Jedite was called "Jade", Nephrite "Ramiro", Ziocite was called "Ruby" and Kunzite was "Zafiro" All the other names were also changed but this was just SO wrong
And, the most infamous thing those people did, was naming Artemis "Artemisa" turning him into a female!!!!!
It was horrible; I'm happy I got to read the scanlations

Ramiro and Zafiro.... o____O; lmao that made me spit out my soda. The english one has usagi as "bunny" which isn't all that bad since it's the literal translation, although I like Usagi 100x better. But the other girls are named Lita, Mina, Amy, and Ray. I'm okay with Mina, Amy and Ray, but where did they get "Lita" from "Makoto", I wonder. I suppose they stole the names from DIC, since I'm pretty sure the anime dub came out before the manga "dub". Eh...

Well, he never did much anyway.

The manga "dub" could have just been being lazy or something. I noticed they edited a lot of things. In the two superS books that I read, they edited out the sidebars (if they had any. I don't know, but the S book that I read had sidebars) And they flipped everything.

The flipping was because of the whole "Japanese read right to left" thing. Now most manga books aren't flipped to preserve the artwork.

I remember that in the Stars manga, a poem that was ORIGINALLY English was translated in Japanese, then re-translated from Japanese back into English, so the whole poem was destroyed XD

...it would have been easier to just go find the original poem, don't you think? o.0

Wow. They are seriously stupid with dubbing the manga. I'm starting to think that only japanese people got the full story.

Well, you also have to keep in mind cultural differences. In Japan, all ages read comic books and watch cartoons. In most other places, especially in the US, it's a kid's thing. So they believed that all of the things like that coming from Japan had to be fit for kids.

Now they seem to be realizing the difference. Dubbing and translating have gotten quite better in recent years. Del Rey even maintains the honorific endings.
