I just noticed this while watching the S season:
In Sailor Moon R, when the senshi meet Pluto at the time gate, Pluto says she cannot leave the gate. However, in S, she reappears on Earth, therefore she has left the gate!
I'm pretty sure the manga explained this, but I don't think the anime did. Is this a plothole or did I miss something?

I don't know about what happened in the anime, but in the manga Pluto has Diana watch over the time gate while she's gone.

And the manga also says (from memory; could be wrong) that she was either permitted or instructed by Neo-Queen Serenity to leave her post. Again from memory, there's no parallel explanation in the anime; she just appears.

Now that you mention it, I've started to wonder this too.

Well, she broke one of the rules she wasn't supposed to in the manga; just wasn't explained in the anime.

She died in the anime when she stopped time to save Neptune and Uranus from dying in the helicopter explosion. She comes back in the beginning of StarS and it seems that she is no longer bound to the gate at that point.

I mean, if it was so important and all.
