It looks like some sort of gradient and maybe a lightened layer...maybe a multiply...

Were you able to do that effect already, on your current icon? Well if you're still wondering basically there's 2 ways to do the effects. I think they're two different ones. I know I'm direct linking but... For the first one I'm pretty sure it's the lighten blend mode. Take like a medium blue or pink color and set the blend mode to lighten. The second one is probably the exclusion blend mode. Get the color dark/navy blue fill the new layer and set the blend mode to exclusion and adjust the opacity to like 40% or adjust to whatever looks good.

I did try with what Ellethwen suggested and it did work, kinda. But thank you for replying, I really like that effect on icons and I am having such a hard time getting it. But I kinda got to this pink colour to lighten blend more myself - by pure chance. ;D Thank you too Lemonachi-chan!

Eh I would write out more detailed instructions but I don't really have time to. Here's a tutorial that sort of explains it but it goes further into other effects. community.livejournal.com/tacticons/10041.html#cutid1
