Have you seen any of the concerts organized yesterday (07.07.2007) for saving our planet? I was surprised to see that there's someone out here who's thinking about the future of Earth.
but still, there are sooo many members of parliament in Romania who use the state's money in their own interest. (just heard this at the TV yesterday).
It's funny how these contrast. xD
*the second part is a kind of vent... however, I would like to know what do you think about the concert (if you saw it)

I read an article recently that said that these concerts aren't actually raising ANY money for helping Earth AND they aren't actually raising awareness, either. Apparently, they worked back in the 80s when the charitable music boom hit, but now that sort of thing doesn't do any good any more. Not only that, but it uses it a ton of energy and resources to do the concert, and creates massive amounts of waste.
Kinda like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, huh?

^ It's pretty ironic, if you ask me. I saw a little of it and it seemed like any other concert, I suppose. I guess the youth of today just don't care enough about the planet or are otherwise too lazy to do anything about it.

I guess the youth of today just don't care enough about the planet or are otherwise too lazy to do anything about it. I think the problem is more that it's just been overdone to death, and people don't even pay attention to it anymore. Not only that, but sooooooooo many people seem to be environmentalists NOT for the environment, but for monetary gain. Most of them are huge hypocrites who go on and on about how we should all drive hybrid cars and cut out so many of our amenities, but they refuse to do the same themselves. Like Al Gore's house, or all the celebrities who drive Priuses but then fly around on private jets which waste a HUGE amount of fuel. That sort of behavior makes me (and many other people, I'm sure) think that the whole environmentalism thing is a scam coming from some of these people, who are just seeking attention/fame/money/whatever. Anyway, I think people should care about the environment, but we've got to use common sense about it! I mean, honestly... how much energy/resources does this "awareness" concert waste?

Mm hmm, Betty Ann, you make a good point. Also, a lot of people hardly care about the environment because they know they won't be there to see it in a hundred years, so why should they worry about a future that doesn't include them? But it doesn't make sense to me because I'm sure most of those people are going to have kids, and who wants their children to suffer terrible natural disasters? Sigh, people.

That reminds me of something... I saw this VERY disturbing movie about Christian fundamentalists called "Jesus Camp" which showed this whole group of people who thought that Jesus was coming back any day now, so they shouldn't care about the environment. Basically, they believed that God put the Earth here for people to trash until Jesus came back and all that. They were also essentially saying that people who care about the environment were going against God's will. The worst part? They were teaching their children this nonsense!

I remember seeing something about the Live Earth concerts on TV. The places were absolutely packed. Needless to say, there was tonnes of litter left.

Religion against the environment? How unfair is that?! Considering there are so many more Christians than there are environmentalists in this world. I don't understand how people can be so unreasonable. If only children listened to Sailor Moon's words of wisdom as rabidly, heh. Seriously, people who follow the Bible word for word truly scare the bajeezes out of me.
