I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but Harry Potter is ultimately a children's book to me and I don't enjoy reading books that are too easy to read. I tend to read books with more complicated prose. It is ultimately a children's/young adult book, but it gets more complicated as the series progresses. When I was younger, I was a really great reader and I was pushed by my school to read harder and harder books. I could read by two, and by first grade, I was reading on an eighth grade level. As a result, I never really got to read children's books when I was a child, so I'm catching up now. I love them! I just finished A Wrinkle In Time a while back and it was fantastic! I've read ridiculously complex books (lolz, Thomas Kuhn, anyone?), but I'm enjoying the children's books. Lots of children's books are really fantastic... just think about the Lord of the Rings series! And of course Alice in Wonderland... it can be REALLY complicated to try to figure out all the cultural/political jokes in it. So, when my friends stop saying that I sound like Hermione or that my high school was "like Hogwarts" because of the houses system with the same house colours, maybe I'll give it a shot At the moment, I'm just far too incensed that my friends are comparing my life to a fictional universe. I've put up with it for too long and it's annoying... Art imitates life

Lots of children's books are really fantastic... just think about the Lord of the Rings series! And of course Alice in Wonderland... it can be REALLY complicated to try to figure out all the cultural/political jokes in it. Yes, my friends have said the same thing (about it getting more complicated as you go along), but it's just not to my taste. You've got your own reasons for going back to children's books, but I don't get that much satisfaction from reading them. I flicked through one of the Harry Potter books at my friend's flat. I don't know which one it was, but it was one of the bigger books, and I read a few pages- I just didn't like how it was written. Again, like I said, it was too simple and straightforward for me. I'll probably read it to my kids in the future or something. XD So, when my friends stop saying that I sound like Hermione or that my high school was "like Hogwarts" because of the houses system with the same house colours, maybe I'll give it a shot At the moment, I'm just far too incensed that my friends are comparing my life to a fictional universe. I've put up with it for too long and it's annoying... Art imitates life Even so, you'd surely find it annoying too if your friends were saying that everything was "like in Harry Potter"... especially when they know that you're not interested in it? If anything, it's making me want to distance myself from it even more.

LOL LOL I call that "The Britney Spears Effect" because I had a friend who was on and on about Britney all the time. Even tough I was more or less neutral towards BS and her music she really started getting on my nerves and I started disliking her. The dislike was proportional to how much my friend talked about her. ;D I guess it's "The Harry Potter Effect" in your case...

I read Books 1-3 in three days last week. I worked through 4-6 in 4 or 5 days. I had never read the stories before, but I do really like them. I am looking forward to the last book, but I will probably wait and borrow it from the Library or from a friend. I would like to try to avoid spoilers once it comes out.

I'm so terrified of spoilers when the seventh book comes out. When the sixth book came out, some jerks posted spoilers all over the internet. It was horrible

I have not been interested in Harry potter, because It's just not my type of story, though I do think the movies are pretty good. The main reason I have never picked up a book is because, for some unknown reason, every one I know thinks that they need to tell me every last thing about the books. I guess they think spoilers are a great way to get someone interested.

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, I've read the books and saw the movies but more out of curiosity...first to see what the fuss was about, then I continued reading because I've read the previous books so now that I did start it I'll finish. But I'm totally not a part of the Harry Potter madness. I'm in the same boat as you Tritogeneia! Eh except I've got a bit of catching up to do ekke. I still have to read books 2 and 3 and and the one with the half blood prince, I've read the others. I don't think I'll be immersed in the Harry Potter scene.
