I have never once been injured by a firework, maybe if people weren't so stupid with them there wouldn't be injuries. I can even light them in my hand and throw them without getting hurt, which is how a lot of people get hurt because they get distracted and just leave it in their hand. Obviously, they can be handled carefully because the only injury in our entire family from fireworks was my cousin Shane who is schizophrenic and on heavy medications, and all he did was hurt his finger. So maybe fireworks aren't that dangerous, maybe people just need to learn how to use them without being stupid?Sorry to be late in this conversation, but as someone whose ancestral hometown is fireworks central in the Philippines, I totally agree with this statement.
Fireworks are actually safe so long as they are made well, and made properly. We were victims of a firecracker explosion once, when the light-giving "wand" (we call them luces) exploded in our faces back when I was barely 10 years old. However, nobody died or was physically scarred for life, don't worry. It's a good thing that the World Pyrotechnic Olympics have raised the standards of fireworks-making in all countries, ours included (we've been hosting it since last year, and oh, it starts today! ). However, some factories are still making the dangerous kinds (I only know the local names, like triangles, "bawang"/"garlic", Judas' belt and Roman candles) and selling them off the streets, where there is little to no regulation (sadly, only wet markets and supermarkets have government personnel regulating the sale of fireworks and firecrackers).
Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ;D
