First of all, hello everybody ;D
Well, I just heard that pluto isn't a planet anymore....
Now Setsuna just has a "dwarf planet" now, I suppose. Or you could call it a "Trans Neptunian Object" (or however that was spelled)
I think it was a REALLY bad idea to change it. It's like changing America over to metric measurement, only world wide. Can you even imagine the confusion?
Not to mention a lot of astrology stuff concerning pluto would be messed up too.

I just watched the news about this. I guess scientists first thought that Pluto was the same size as Earth and Venus, however, studies showed that Pluto is thus much smaller: a mere 14,000 miles. Scientists also determined the size a planet must be, and Pluto doesn`t fit the criteria anymore. We are now a solar system of 8 planets instead of nine.

Yeah, I just read the newspaper and saw the news. However, they have just made a new category called the "minor planets", and Pluto, Xena and those other larger space objects go there, with asteroids in the third group. The problem was, if Pluto was considered a planet, then Xena and those other larger space objects they discovered recently would too have to fall in the same category. Anyway, Setsuna is still a senshi, and luckily the Stars series didn't completely "delete" Pluto from the series if they had found out earlier.

Not to mention a lot of astrology stuff concerning pluto would be messed up too. Well, not really. Even if Pluto isn't a planet anymore, it's transitions and positions don't change, and also it's meaning and influences in the houses and signs don't change (astrology is a hooby of mine). natal charts for example, also include the asteriods Ceres, Juno, Pallada and Minerva...the meanings will remain the same, it doesn't matter if Pluto is tehnicaly a planet or a dwarf planet.

This isn't really directed towards you eternalmegan because I have heard the same thing from other people about a millions times thus far. I think it's pretty silly to say, "Well I am still going to consider it a planet!" I mean, science progresses. We learn things and they we have to change how we think about our universe based on the new things we learn. Imagine if everyone just said, "Nah, I am always going to believe the world is flat and I am going to teach that to my kids. And the Sun revolves around the Earth and all the stars are of equal distance obiting around the Earth." You know? I don't like change either, but I believe Pluto was mistakenly classified as a planet when it was discovered. It was right of the scientific community to correct this mistake. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not going to keep thinking Pluto is a planet, but I'll keep my respect and interest in it. We're continuing to advance, and I'm very excited to find out those mysterious worlds beyond Pluto and the Kuiper objects.

I think it is safe to conclude that we will always think of sailor pluto as resembling a planet during the time period in which this was the case, and i feel it will nbot overly effect the charater. although admittedly it must suck not to qualify *gives setsuna reassuring smile*

yeah, my boyfriend's family is pretty upset about this! his mom's side is related to the man who discovered it or whatnot.. (lowell is her maiden name.)
here's an article from encarta:
January 21, 1930 Pluto Discovered The planet Pluto, the existence of which had been theorized by American astronomer Percival Lowell in 1905, is discovered by American astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh near the position Lowell had predicted.
