Just something I was thinking about. Her whole job isn't to go out and attack people and kill them or anything; her job is to guard the souls at Zero Star Sagittarius and make sure they don't escape. I mean, somebody's got to do it! It's a lot like the Grim Reaper, or Death. Sure, death is no fun, but everybody has to die some time. Does that make the Grim Reaper EVIL? He's just doing his job! If HMP wasn't doing her job, all those souls would escape, resulting in mass chaos, right? Unless they were reborn for whatever reason.
So she tried to kill Sailor Moon (and Kakyuu, and ChibiChibi). But once again, she's just got to do her job!
She's under control of Galaxia, though, and she's an animamate, so that's a little weird. Maybe she was posted there by Galaxia, who "fired" the person who held the job before HMP? Who will do the job now that HMP is gone? And if the souls of the senshi were at Zero Star Sagitarrius as butterflies, how can they also be in the Galaxy Cauldron at the end of the manga?
OMG, my brain hurts. The last arc of the manga is really just one giant, gaping plot hole. o.o

I think the butterfly/souls were just the last reminants of the soul, not the full thing.
Though I would have to go back and re-read the manga, it's been awhile and I'm lazy.

She calls it "the land to where the remnants of dead stars drift." Then she calls all the butterflies the "last flames of the stars." Meaning, they shouldn't be reborn again. But she's guarding them so they won't escape... if they escape, there could be chaos, right? Still, the woman has a job to do. I don't think it makes her evil.

Well.. if she wasn`t under control.. She`d be just like Pluto. Pluto almost killed Sailor Moon, Venus and Tuxedo Kamen when they broke the taboo of traveling through the time gates. She had a job to do. & so did Heavy Metal Papillon.

Or she was preventing those souls/dead stars from going to the Galaxy Cauldron by setting up the graveyard. Sailor Cosmos did say that the Cauldron was where all stars are created and destroyed. Dying/dead stars, then, probably go there to...well...rest in peace by way of the Cauldron (it kind of sounds like a universal recycling bin). Papillon was probably stopping 'loser stars' from entering the Cauldron, keeping those stars from going to, what would be, their rightful place. That would make her really evil. Or maybe the graveyard(?) was always there. I think it makes more sense that Papillon probably 'replaced' the original keeper by Galaxia's orders or her own jealousy for not being picked for the job in the first place. Both reasons still make her sound pretty bad. If that's the case, I think that souls would go to the graveyard and the crystals of those souls go to the Cauldron. *takes a deep breath* Oi...someone give me some asprin.

Maybe her original job was to guard the graveyard, but I think the fact that her goal was to kill Eternal Sailor Moon, plus the Galactica braclets she had on makes it pretty clear that she was a villain. She never mentioned that it was forbidden to enter the graveyard or anything, so I'm pretty sure she was acting under Galaxia's orders. She also didn't seem to bothered by the fact that she was causing Eternal Sailor Moon-tachi tremendous amounts of pain.
