Ahaha, I love the special for that very reason. I get bored if the characters act exactly the same...I mean, people grow, experience personality changes, etc...I was a lot like Ami and went from being shy and withdrawing to more vocal about my opinions virtually over night. So I don't really find it odd at all.

I agree with that statement. It's like in those crappy Nickelodean Cartoons, Timmy makes a wish, Wanda says it's selfish and irresponsible, Timmy doesn't listen, Wanda turns out to be right. Every single :-[ing episode! Ugh.
In Sailor Moon, sure it's Random Person gets energy drained/Heart Stolen/Dream Mirror Taken/Starseed Ripped out of them like almost ALL the episodes. But at least in between we have Chibiusa learning how to make friends, Usagi slowly becoming braver than the crybaby she was in the begining, or even Demando/Diamondo/Diamond realising that what he's doing for the Black Moon isn't right.(I haven't watched the R season in a long time though...Keep that in mind.)
I agree with Calico's statement.

You pwn my karma. ;D
Seriously. This is the best explanation for it. After all, she's been with bubbly girls for, let's see, around five years now (from Classic to Stars, even if you take into consideration the "lost" year between Classic and R). If you had a completely different personality from the crowd you began to hang out with, but you all enjoyed hanging out together, wouldn't some of their attitude rub off on you too? (Which reminds me, it could've been worse - I mean, look what happened to MINAKO. ) I know that well because it happened to me.

I agree with most of you about the special. Ami was ...simply weird. I was almost embarrassing to watch.
Same with the lemure in the special. She over reacted to everything. Wow. She's Sailor Mercury. *insert loud screams here* She's about to attack. *insert loud screams here*.

I didn't think that Ami would go nuts and take the situation in a negative way just because someone else was able to compete with her scores. For example, Ami still remained calm in the S series when both she and Viluy got the top marks.

Ive seen the short a few times and yes Ami WAS pretty weird there, but I think they were trying to make Ami a bit funnier (Ami made me laugh in the short ) and since Ive only seen very few of Stars, I only saw eps of Ami acting pretty strange. She doesnt act all shy much and acts much more mature than the pevious seasons. I mean you know 15-16 yr old girls, they change time to time . In the 1st season she was 14, then in Stars she approx 16yrs. That is a big change with Ami.
Anyway Ami is my 2nd fave and I dont mind if Ami changes in Stars, everyones personality changes overtime.
Ami had more confidence! I mean, a few years of being a heroine and hanging out with the most outgoing and bubbly and hyper girls could change you a bit. ^.^
