well, I'm not good at explaining, but I can try.
Minako-chan was ill and had only months to live. There was an operation that could have saved her life, but she was too stubborn about the Mission to listen to Artemis or anyone else. So when she finally decided to have the operation, the day she went for a check-up on her condition, she ended up dying, instead, because she'd left the operation too late...

I really never got that Well, I guess they let her die because it would've seemed more "dramatic" like when Mars cried at the end....

I was pretty disappointed by the whole Minako situation in general in PGSM. I LOVE Minako, but she just wasn't the same in PGSM. I loved how she was always trying to become an idol, but in PGSM she WAS an idol... it just seems to take away some of the charm somehow. And then they had to go and kill her off! Ugh.

I agree, Minako's death was the saddest moment in PGSM and I wanted to cry during it.
I also agree about her being completely different from any Minako we've ever seen. But I guess a dying Senshi added lots of drama to the show, which is what they wanted. It was also interesting to see Minako as an idol instead of just wanting to be one.

I agree, everyone is so serious in PGSM.maybe thats why my choice goes to anime where you can always laugh with them n stuff.Although I understand its hard to exactly copy the anime behaviour:P I cant imagine Minako chasing every guy she sees in PGSM:P

Aww, I loved Minako in PGSM! Of course, I love the Minako in the anime as well, but I felt like I could identify with the PGSM Minako (with the whole fainting and illness thing- I'm ill and I faint frequently as well). I was REALLY sad when she died as well =( I felt really bad for Rei...

Thanks, shimanneke =) I remember fainting at school =/ It's such a bother and quite embarrassing, too, but thankfully, people were understanding and supportive. I've had the condition for almost six years and I've been fainting monthly for that length of time. Not fun. Especially when you're a student. In PGSM, whenever Minako's vision starts to go blurry, I totally understand what she feels and also when she just collapses onto the floor. It happens to me all the time, but I really admire her for her hard work, despite what she has to deal with. She's more of a loner, but considering that she has her illness to deal with, she just seems so strong to me. It's inspirational...even if she did die (I'm glad she came back right at the end though). PGSM Minako has a special place in my heart

I'm glad your school is supportive, most people in my school would just watch and ask questions later,or just gossip :/ it's true,I love how people, despite their sicksness, can be strong for other people and just be there for them even they have their own to think about :*)

I know it's been a while since anyone posted in this thread but I just watched Act 47 again and oh man it gets me every time. The worst part for me, is when Rei meets up with the other senshi fighting Jedite's youmma and she just stands there. And the youmma come at her, but Jupiter zaps them and tells Mars to transform. She is so SO SO emotional when she says her transformation, and that whole scene is just so passionate. I think the girl that plays Mars might be the best for the emotions in PGSM.
Plus, I am under the impression that maybe Minako was lying about that being an examination. I think she told them that so they wouldn't worry, but that it was actually the surgery which unfortunately failed. This would explain why there was a letter left at Crown - it would be there in her place for the party if she did not return.

I just finished the whole series today, and omg, I'm so crying. I have had tears in my eyes since episode 45 or 46. It was just so... beautiful and sad and terrible and wonderful... Rei-chan crying and screaming and all that was just ... oh god, heart strings officially tugged! I'm soooo glad I got to watch the whole series.

I love the PGSM Venus most of all the versions so far. She ACTS like a leader (I didn't notice this at all in the anime).
