Oh yes, I've experienced some of these first hand. I went to Japan in fourth grade, and I went to school with my Japanese friend the same age as me. In the morning, everyone rose to stay good morning to the teacher and then everyone had to clean the classroom. We did the whole switching shoes thing too. It was very interesting. Also, before we ate, we said itadakimasu and such. It was really a good experience, and I'd lovee to go again... probably just to eat. Haha. I love Japanese food.

Oh Hinorei, I envy you! I've always wanted to go to Japan! BTW, do you guys know about the Kami-no-ki trees? They are a special kind of tree very old and tall (kami-no-ki means Budah's tree) which are sacred, they all have something unique. Like in some of them, their branches are pointing one specific direction, or their leaves have an special color. When people found a Kami-no-ki they give it space by cutting off the other plants around it People can visit them and take a little branch from 'em Many temples have one! I knew this because I love plants and short tales

In my opinion, Japans culture is WAY better than Americas, they are more polite,. and if they are not, then a parent may say "You have brought this family shame". And I, (being a cultural person) actually have been practicing these things in my daily life. For some reason, after doing these routines, it just makes me HATE America more.

@the Queen-No problem.
@betty Ann-*nods*That's very true.Still,though,those mealtime rules are good manners for any home.It's just that some parents are liberal with the way they raise their kids,while some others are firm,strict and stern.

There are plenty of negative things about Japan, as well. No one country is 100% perfect in every way; there's always something that someone won't like. I think it shows a great deal of naivete on your part to believe that any country is better than any other without having spent an extensive amount of time in both countries. There are plenty of polite Americans. And plenty of rude Japanese people. I'd also like to point out that saying offensive things about America and making blanket statements is quite rude (particularly in the presence of a large number of Americans). So although you say you're so much more polite than other Americans, you're really showing yourself to be far more rude than other Americans.

Man... I just saw this thing on YouTube where the men at a Japanese university were in a "rape club" where they orchestrated and actually carried out plans to group rape women at the university.
I dunno about you, but that's creepy to me...
