I remember my grandma's church sent a missionary to Japan because "there weren't enough Evangelicals", so I'm inclined to believe the first is wrong.

Those statements are just as bad as when S.O.S. claimed they had proof from Naoko herself that Uranus used to be 'Prince' Uranus before being reborn %D Religious nuts are always bending and twisting things if they find something 'questionable'.

ugh.... it's people like that who really bug me and give religion a bad name. I did LOL at the "three men and a star" sentence though.

lol Well, I do find it interesting to find actual subtleties of religion in both literary works and television shows, but false accusations and just plain damn stupid lies.... that's annoying lol They need to be hit on the head with a bat... or at least one of those foam noodles.....
If they really want to focus on religion in places, focus on ACTUAL works that contain references, there are plenty (LOTR and Chronicles of Narnia are two good examples) and if you DO want to talk about "Christianity in Sailor Moon" point out the whole "Messiah" thing go "huh that's interesting" and MOVE ON lol
My gosh people.... those people seriously need to get lives....

is that true?? it seems so unbelievable. if that actually is true, then we can conclude that takeuchi-san is a very religious woman.

It's not, secretbear.
* Usagi isn't ten years old, period, and I have nooo idea why that was said.
* Usagi does not wear crosses in the anime; when she wore them in the manga, there was no apparent connection to religion-they were simply jewelry-and they weren't edited out of the English version. I have a copy of the English manga that still has her cross on the front.
* Usagi's fights with Rei have never been about religion-they've been about everything but, and we have seen Usagi doing things such as working at the shrine, so she's probably not all that concerned for Rei's religion-otherwise, why would she help?
* The only similarity the Makaijuu arc had with Nordic religions was a tree (The World-Tree Yggdrassil).
* R and S don't deal with Wicca, and I have noooooo idea where that idea came from. There's nothing similar at all.
* Hentai fanfiction isn't canon.
* Haruka and Michiru are lesbian, they exist, so let's just get over it :-P
Overall, Sailor Moon was not created to spread religion in Japan; Naoko has given no indication as such. It's simply a story she created for others to enjoy.

I read on some places that Christianity was banned or something in Japan but I don't know where they got Sailor Moon as Super Christian from

I have seen the site, and that information was posted in the comments section. A lot of Christians were bashing the show and saying that they don't let their kids watch it. Some Sailor Moon fan probably posted that information to get them to give the show a chance.
And Christianity isn't banned in Japan. No religion is banned in japan.

That was crazy. I don't like it. Honestly, It makes Christians sound bad, lying about this. Come on, one of our rules is to not lie! I know that everyone lies, but this is lying about Christianity, how oxy-moronic. Or ironic, I don't know which. but, yeah, being a Christian, I watch it without complaining, and I don't believe this. I don't know why anyone would...

I know how you feel Mistress Vampire. I'm Christian, but I also have more unconventional views than most mainstream denominations... I hate being lumped into the same category as some of the more intolerant ones that think there's no such thing as interpretation. Ugh.

I read enouh in this thread and now don't even want to go and read that, lest I be completely embarrased, as I suspect I'm going to be. No, Christianity isn't currently banned in Japan, but was in the past... like in the XVI century: (quoting from wiki pedia) "In 1597, twenty-six Christians were nailed to crosses at Nagasaki, Japan (...) The executions marked the beginning of a long history of persecution of Christianity in Japan, which continued until the United States of America and other Allies defeated Japan at war in 1945, ending World War II." (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crucifixion#Japan) "Catholicism was subsequently repressed in several parts of the country, and Christianity was legally banned throughout Japan during the Edo period. It continued to be practised illicitly by some aristocrats, who often concealed Christian iconography within closed shrines, lanterns or inconspicuous parts of buildings." (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_Japan)So the Japanese have somewhat had periods of intolerance in their history, too.
