Okies, my family and I really have a problem here. You see, our new house didn't have people living in it for, oh, 'bout five years. An investor bought it and spruced it up a little (e.g., added an inground pool). He never lived in it. But this lack of life in the house led to there being a lot of, erm, creepy crawlies. Such as? Lift up the ugly brown carpet covering our deck and you'll find the crickets, which like to jump into the pool. SUICIDAL CRICKETS!However, our biggest problem is not the suicidal crickets, however annoying it is to find them when you're swimming. It is the ANTS.
There are a lot of tiny little ants that are finding our way into our house. And we can't get rid of them. They get into the food pantry, the counter, the bathroom, and today it seems they've found the garbage can (however the heck they get up there, I don't know).
The problem with this is that they get places. They got into our cereal, even after we got these really tight-sealing Tupperware contaniers for it. We found them in the sugar, even though that's in a big ceramic container with a really tight lid. The only place that seems safe is the top of the fridge. And we've tried a lot to get rid of them. At first we used bleach. Then we got a friend of ours to come do his little bugspray thing. Then we used Raid. Now we've got those little ant hotels, in an attempt to take out the nest we can't find.
It doesn't work! I'm almost certain that their nest is in the strip of red mulch by the pool-I've never seen that many ant hills in one spot-but somehow I'm thinking that even if we spray that thing, the ants won't go away. Has anyone else had this problem? How can we get rid of the ants? We're going ballistic out here!

Well, I'd say bug spray. Lots of it!
But then again, if that doesn't work, maybe you could hire one of those pest exterminators dudes. With one of those over-the-house tents!
Dunno really!

Yeah, most of the time if you've got an infestation, a professional is the only way to handle it. Look at it this way: at least it's just ants. We had ROACHES! It was DISGUSTING! We tried to spray everywhere, but they would just not go away! Finally, we had a fire, and the smoke killed a lot of them, and the only stuff we did take (electronics and a couple dressers) we made sure were clean of them before we took them (yes, roaches get into electronics) and bought new stuff. And even after not living there for 5 months, when you go to the trailer.... you can STILL FIND SOME!!!!! They're not all dead. Isn't that disgusting? Although that trailer has a new infestation: fleas >_< My dad bombed it yesterday, but when we go and get the rest of the few things we want (calendars... posters...) so we can haul the trailer off and clear out the land for a doublewide, I am gonna freakin bathe in bugspray before I go in there lol.
Anyway, usually sprays and traps don't work. I suggest a professional, and if you don't think you can afford that, the best alternative to that would be a bug bomb. Otherwise, get a professional.

We did have a professional come over; that was our friend. He's coming over again, tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get 'em this time.
Augh, I hate roaches. *shudders*

We had ants a couple of months ago in our basement, but they've moved on and we haven't seen any since. We also had a termite problem a year ago which forced us to call an exterminator who set up traps around (by that I mean outside) the house to kill them.
Your best bet is to call a professional. With that many pests, just spraying Raid won't work.

Hmm... Ants can be a pest. I know for a fact that they don't like talcum powder. I can't remember why, but during summer we sometimes flour our bench and some parts of the house with talcum powder. They keep away then. Of course, you might not bits of talc all over the house, especially if you hate cleaning it, but if you know a shifty-eyed, quick-fingered little kid... Hey, I know they'll spread the powder out good for you. ;D Heheh

Well, Tony, our pest person friend, came over and sprayed some more chemical. He also got us these new ant hotels that he apparently swears by because they're so good.
Nathan also got out a can of Raid and went on a killing spree. It was weird, but kind of funny to see him so obsessive. Then it just got annoying.
But hopefully, the new chemicals and the new ant hotels work!

we had ant problems when we moved into our current house, you could squash them and more came and retreived the bodies, lol, got rid of them finally, my dad found the nest and poured bleach all over it, they died and did't get replaced by new colonies... any free heaven still another thing is too keep everything in sealed containers so there's nothing to attract them inside climb of course
