My name's Miranda. I'm a Sailor Moon obsessor (obsessee?), obviously, or I wouldn't be here. I've been visiting The Oracle for a long time, but never noticed that there's a forum...I figured that I've prolly been missing out on some stuff, so I joined. Basics about me: I'm gonna be a junior this coming school year; I'm in my school's marching band-I'm a flag girl, and our show is based on Moulin Rouge (sorry, I just felt like sharing that^^). I like to act, dance badly, and be generally funny. I'm a spaz, and very random, so....Yeah .^^ I can't wait to meet you all. !!!

I played the flute and we had these horrible "flutist's friends" that you'd put on your arm with the music. What about yourself?`

"Flutist's friends"? Our band had something similar...but we just called them flip folders....
and while I don't play an instrument, I have quite a few good friends that are flute players, and a lot of clarinet friends, too.
I'm in the colorguard--we do the flags, and sometimes sabers and rifles....and lots of dancing. That's always fun. ^^
but you left marching band? haha, I know some of people who're thinking of leaving our band, one of which is --a floutist (sp?)

Yeah haha it is supposed to be called flip folder but "Flutist's Friend" is the brand we have I guess. Oh right you mentioned that you were the flag girl in the introduction but I wasn't sure if you doubled on an instrument as well. Anyway if your marching band has colorguard with flags, rifles, dancing, and sabers you guys must be wicked good and technical! Our band just has people playing instruments dressed up in extremely uncomfortable straightjackets or uniforms. Last year we went to this Christmas Festival Marching Band competition and our band looked sad and pathetic compared to the other bands that had dancing routines and colorguard ;D. AT LEAST... we had purple pants and capes though . Our band is kind of unique... since most of the people in band smoke pot and their weekend plans consist of getting wasted. I didn't really feel like I fit in so I decided to leave band. That was kind of long.

well, that makes sense.
YOU GUYS HAVE CAPES!?!? Our drum major last year had a cape...
I shall have to upload our band dvd somewhere, so you can see us...
we aren't super technical; we're actually from a pretty small town...but we work our butts off. In fact, I have practice starting mid-july. But maybe all bands do that.
We're the "Marching Eagles" (eagles being our mascot) and the band members are stuck in our school colors.....green...but at least the uniforms they're wearing now are mostly black...which is slightly less humiliating than the stained white ones they had in the 90's......and our costumes for colorguard the past 2 years have been green.....hopefully since we're doing moulin rouge!, then we can have another color(s).......
gah
at least you had purple....

YES WE HAVE CAPES. Terrible terrible capes that only looks cool on Halloween. Oh! I would love to see your band. I don't think we have any videos but we might have some humiliating pics.
Practice? Already you guys are 1000% better than our band our practice consists of going outside 4 times during the year and marching in the school drive way and usually we're in the way of a car coming in. Marching Eagles? That sounds pretty cool actually well the mascot ;D. Our mascot is a "General" from the civil war... I have no idea why. So our uniforms are supposed to be like an army general from the 19th century. With the little ruffled collar and all and we haven't replaced them in 30+ years.
But that'd be great if you guys got new uniforms for the moulin rouge theme! ;D

Thank you for the welcome, Pyxee. I hope we can become friends!
Yeah, our band has a really great director; Mr.Smith. He's a hardas$, and really scary; he made me cry freshman year; but he's amazing...in fact he was teacher of the year...
Until I can get some video uploaded, you may satisfy yourself with this: it's our poorley made marching band site--Mr. Smith is in the first picture; he's the tall gangly guy on the right...in the 3rd picture, you can see our Drum Major's cape...there aren't so many pictures, but you can get the idea.
...I nominate you for honorary marching eagle. Colorguard, if you wish!

Mr. Smith what a generic name. Anyway well it is better to be feared (respected) than loved to have order of the classroom on the otherhand with our band director he just sweats and yells a lot. (Not quite teacher of the year material). Poorly made sites are always fun we don't have any pictures of us on the site but just random info. Is there a link for the site, although your descriptions are quite riveting. Hurray I feel special being nominated for colorguard YAY. Are there like tryouts or auditions for band or does everyone just get incorporated into marching band?

if you play an instrument and you want to be in M. band, you're in; if you want to be in colorguard, you have to try out, as you would have seen if I'd remembered to put up the link...*flinches* here tis now: www.ehh.henderson.k12.nc.us/ssmith-web/marchingband

Nice, I always hated try outs and auditions haha . So what do you have to do for colorguard tryouts? Mr. Smith looks so young... well at least compared to our band director! Here's a picture of him. (He's the one with the balding head and cringing face, although you probably figured that.) Ohh and are those trophies from Marching Band competitions? ;D I would show you our school's website but apparently it's "expiring" and our school has to renew their domain. Your band's uniforms look very nice actually! I wish I had a picture of ours to show you but at the same time I do not want to make a fool of myself.
