I saw most of the anime and read some of the manga, but I liked the manga better because of how beautiful the artwork was.

I liked both the anime and the manga, but I like the manga better... You just can't make artwork more beautiful than Clamp's original... I cried at three places in the manga. I was really crying. That's how good it is. I like the anime, but it's nowhere near as good as the manga. I also found it dissapointing. The anime changed the plot a bit, and I'm not sure why. In the manga, a crucial part of the entire meaning of Chobits is the location of Chii's 'on' switch... (it's in a VERY strange place, for those of you who don't know) You don't discover why it's there until the very end when Chii finds the 'person just for her'. The 'city with no people' books hint at one 'thing' that Chii can't do that has to do with her on/reset switch. This is the ENTIRE point to Chii's search. The anime never explains this. Also, 'dark chii' was made out to be somewhat malicious in the anime. This is not the case in the manga. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I must say that the plot is very different. oh, listen to me rant! geez... I like Chobits almost as much as I like Sailormoon! (that's a whole lot!)

Oh. Now i'm not sure if i want to see the anime. i've read the whole series (in English ^^; ... and i got kind of confused at the end... i guess 'cause i didn't understand Clamp's opinion on .. that thing Chi can't do .... But i think i get it now! Also,,, that whole 'humans fall in love with robots' thing is kind of off-putting for me... but it is very deep!

You should watch it if you get the chance. The animation's pretty cool, and it's good for laughs.
but, yeah, the manga was the best! I had to read it three of four times before I understood it... It is deep...

I first got the manga when I went to Garden State Mall with my best friend Diana. She saw some Rurouni Kenshin preview playing in a Suncoast Store and she literally sat down on the floor inside the store to watch it. While she was... in her own little world... I was looking at the manga and picked up Chobits because the cover was pretty. Then, of course, DeeDee (Diana) took it from me and bought it, then read the first couple chapters herself, laughing every five seconds. When I finally got to read it (she didn't want to give it back), I loved it. ^^; So I bought the whole series in the next month.
It was very touching, especially with Yumi, and she would have to be one of my favorite characters! I didn't see the anime though. It doesn't look as appealing. I guess because it's not CLAMP's drawing.

Hehe! I do that too... much to my friend's dismay, they usually have to drag me out of stores...
Right before volume 8 was first released, I read on the tokyopop website that there would be a limited edition box for the manga along with vol. 8, and a chii figurine. me: *___* must... have... I bugged my mom for two days to drive be to the bookstore until she finally did. I ran through the mall and to the bookstore and searched for it... I grabbed the only one and... VICTORY!!!!!! (I got a lot of strange looks from random strangers, but I knew they were just jealous of my spiffy box and chii figurine...)
The end made me cry... and cry... and cry... So... happy... BUT! the end of the anime, as I ranted about before, was a big let-down. And no matter what you do, you cannot come close to Clamp's artwork, not in animation, not in anything.
I also cried as I read book 4, when Ueda was telling Hideki about his persocom (I've also heard it called persocon, mostly in fan translations), the one that, as we find out later, was was named Yumi. How she 'died'... I can't look at her as having been 'broken', but to me she died. And I cried for half an hour. Am I pitiful? Maybe, but Clamp obviously knew what they were doing. The point was less clear in the anime (but I'm ranting again...)
*the following may contain spoilers for some people* Could you beleive Ueda was so old? He looked lates 20's... geez... and his voice in english is spike's from cowboy bebop! He was cool... ALL of them were... Except maybe the dude who kidnapped Chii... what was his name, Yoshiyuki? That was one part of the anime I liked. It was shown well in the books, but it was cool to see it animated... She's all floaty and spaced out ang then that guy tries to touch her spot, the perv, and the wires stop his hand and wrap him up and lift him in the air, and dark chii's personality emerges (freya, who protects chi, like a security system or something) she says something to the effect of 'you are not the one for me, so don't try to come inside' and then... KABOOM! the windows explode and glass goes everywhere and I think the one dude gets electrocuted or something (it knocks him out).
maybe I'm just easily amused... oh, I've gone off and babbled again... no life, i have no life...
