i don't understand how some people think it's possible to have sm stars in english? i was thinking of this yesterday, wouldn't in the english form the three lights/starlights take on the female form? i was thinking what about the camping episode and the shower scene what would they do about that?

I think the main reason for Sailor Stars not being dubbed was because it would be too difficult to cut out all of the things that they would find "inappropriate" for younger children, such as the whole female-becoming-male thing and the shower scene. It would be too complicated. That's why I love voice-acting, you can try for fandubs of this series (I'm in three as Saturn so far)

It was a problem also in Italy... well, here they made a real mess, seriously. We had the "dub", but... At first it was as in the japanese version, they actually changed sex. After a while some people noticed that and probably said (in italian): "HECK!!" So they screwed it all up and started to change things...the three men actually "call" their "twin sisters" from Outer Space (sic ), the Sailor Starlights; they just disappear during those odd summons XD Amazing, uh?

Yeah, i remember it They also gave them freaky names... like.. Fighter was called "Sailor Queen of bravery" Maker "Sailor Stardust" and Healer "Sailor Heart of the future"

Sailor Moon now fits in the category of being a show of the past, just like a bunch of 80's cartoons in America. Most of its fans are at least older teenagers. Because of that, I don't think that dubbing Sailor Stars (or just releasing the Japanese version on region 1 DVDs) would be nearly as controversial as it was back in 1999-2000 (when the kiddies were watching it).
Additionally, the anime industries dramatically changed when DVDs happened. Before DVDs, the only way anime fans could get most of their anime was through fansubs on VHS. The anime industries have also recognized that not all anime is intended for little kids.
With these factors into consideration, dubbing Sailor Stars SHOULDN'T be a problem.

Leenie has a good point. Dubbing really shouldn't be a problem. I only hope that this dubbing happens someday.

Oh,in China we only have the first and second series on TV,and it has been changed a lot! You know how Chinese see love affairs, they just don't want little children to know about it.For example when Usagi says she likes Mamoru, the Chinese version will change it into "I wanna be good friends with Mamoru" or "I will learn after Mamoru"and something like that.So it is quite different from what ladylilith said. But Zoisite and Kunzite are gays in China, maybe China doesn't resist gay that much,I suppose?

I think dubbing Sailor Stars in English (and other languages) should have been done a long time ago. Dub it, make it onto a DVD (and other formats) and sell it worldwide! Forget about taking out 'bad' things. Put a rating on the material, and make fans happy!

actually, that first one is what the American version would have been like (cutting the scene where they're blasted by Galaxia) but it kinda sanitizes the whole scene.
